Bring back the 10 minute match penalty. I'll use the Chicago game last night as an example. Give Torres the 10 minute match,Bollig goes after him. If Torres turtles,Bollig gets the 17 minute package,The Hawks still have 3 minutes on the Powerplay to score as many as they can. If Torres choses to fight back,than the Hawks get the 7 minutes of PP time. What do you think?

Not sure where you're going with this. The instigator penalty needs to be abolished.

With 2 refs on the ice and 2 linesmen, they should be able to see who is gooning and who isn't and it would be at their discretion to assess an extra penalty to someone that starts a fight just for the sake of starting a fight, ie, jumps someone.

There is nothing else. Until that happens, this game will continue to erode until there are no tough guys left unless they can play well.

Those who like fighting in hockey are an enormous segment of its fans and players polled said the game needs fighting, 199-1 out of 200 players and that 1 must have been a Sedin or some other pu$$.

Bettman just can't figure it out. It doesn't have to be a pro wrestling event with brawls and slamming heads into the ice like the 70's but rather players need to be able to police themselves, the way it was always done before Buttman and all his gay rules.

I've never seen anyone except a European talk down about fighting in the NHL. Go figure. Everyone else loves it!

I think when it comes to the Torres, Cookes, Lapperiers, Kaletas, Subans, etc, etc, etc... of the league they should be fair game to beat the **** out of without being penalized when they play like the assholes that they are.

Or just bump the 5 minute match to 10 minutes,instigator or not,How could Tippett put Torres in the line-up without worrying,or him changing his game? I would hate to be a top 2 D-man and have to kill a 10 minute powerplay. Or 10 minute match,and put a limit to amount of goals scored on the powerplay: 3,or 4,or 5.

are you saying make it a 10 minute power play instead of 5? cause technically a match penalty is 10 penalty minutes, just a 5 minute power play.

This is a retarded idea. The rule changes that need to happen:

1. Get rid of the instigaor completely
2. Get rid of the automatic game misconduct for secondary altercations (why can't >1 pair fight simultaneously?)
3. Get rid of the neutral-zone faceoff if the defensemen join a scrum around a goalie. I can't imagine a scenario where someone would have thought that was a good idea.

Not me. i don't know any hockey fans who don't like fighting. But I do live in Florida, where 95 percent of the people have never watched a game. The Czeck people I know don't dislike it. I think they're more neutral.

I think my problem is the only europeans I have talked about hockey with are the Czech and Slovak lady I work with and one of their daughters...haha!

But now that I think about it I did have a Russian buddy and his wife who didn't like any of the rough stuff...
