NHL Cancels Remainder of 2012 Preseason

We're all lovers of the awesome sport of Hockey, that's why we are posting these thoughts, but there aren't that many of us. The NHL is foolish, the owners and the players alike. Hockey trails far behind the other major sports in the U.S. MLB playoffs are beginning the NFL is back in full swing and basketball will be back soon and the powers that be in the NHL decide that it's acceptable to have another lockout WTF are these idiots thinking??!! The NHL could have really been in the middle of an upswing in momentum with the last 2 seasons Stanley Cup Champs being the B's who won their 1st Cup in almost 40yrs and LA winning their 1st Cup ever, it was an exciting last 2 seasons in Hockey and they are going to screw things up with their f@#%*&g GREED! The majority of people in U.S. cities that even HAVE a Hockey team do not care one way or the other about the sport. I'm from Boston and most people here a year and a half after the Bruins won the championship don't talk about or care or even know that there might not be a Hockey season. Bettman and Fehr need to AGREE to pull their heads out of their butts and get something done if not for us loyal fans that they couldn't care less about but for the sake of the future of the game!!!!

I don't think you're correct in saying there 'aren't that many of us' when referring to NHL fans. I think there are plenty of NHL fans, it's the diehard fans that there aren't that many of. The NHL was/is in an upswing. They got that large TV deal with NBC, and fans came back after the first lockout. The league/owners/players are all greedy, but the fans will return. Look at the 2011 revenue; NFL-$11 billion, MLB-$7 billion, NBA-$3.3 billion, NHL-$3.3 billion. Obviously it is behind the NFL and MLB which is expected, but it is right there with the NBA. Furthermore, the NHL's average attendance last season was a few hundred above the attendance for the NBA. You have to realize that at the beginning of the season, most fans are just starting the transition from another sport. I'm a diehard Flyers fan, and while I watch the games from the beginning of the season, it is usually after the Superbowl when I really start to get into them. Right now you have college football, NFL, MLB playoffs all going on at once, so I don't think it is (in your case_ and absense of Bruins fans in Boston, it is just too early yet. People will start to care once the other sports start winding down and there is nothing else to watch on TV besides the NBA.

What bothers me is, I think the knuckleheads representing both sides know the fans will return and simply do not care. I can't believe they'd actually consider another lost season, but with the way the NHL returned last time I'm beginning to think they'd be fine with it.

Believe it because it's been reported that the owners are more than prepared to not only lose this season but to consider a 2nd lost season to get what they want. The comments about going 2 full locked out seasons seems like a bit of posturing by the owners but you never know. I'd find it hard to believe that they'd be stupid enough to scrap 2 seasons but if they are willing to scrap 1 season (which I'd bet the house that they are) to get what they want and the players dont cave (which they probably will after losing a full season) I dont see why they wouldnt go a 2nd full season to get the players to cave.
