I agree , but I think if it dips below the time required too get in 60 games the season will be scraped , no one wants to watch hockey being played in JULY ..

The NHLPA is full of the most greedy, self centered a-holes on the planet who don't give a **** about anything or anyone other than themselves. This cannot be argued as their actions prove the point beyond contention.
While I agree with your feeling on Unions, let's try and remember who locked out who. Players were willing to play under the old CBA while working on a new one, owners were not. So who exactly is the "greedy, self centered a-holes", who is likely taking the pay cut, who is getting a pay raise, who has an average career of 5 seasons, and who could own a team till death, who is submitting proposals and who is rejecting them in record time? Who signed 10 year deals at the close of the CBA and now wants a do-over?

Sure unions suck, just ask Hostess Brands, IMHO their time has long since passed, but you might want to point some of that anger at the owners, for it takes two to tango.

Do you have any idea who Donald Fehr is? He and his MLB players union made the same promise in 1994-1995. Do some research and see how that worked out for baseball that season.

Agreed. IMO a PR move to get fans on their side.

PR move or not, the owners locked out the players, the players didn't go on strike and refuse to play (as they did in MBL's case). The owners could have attempted to call Fehr's bluff if they thought that was the case.

Last time I checked it was the owners that hired a PR firm to craft a narrative not the players.

As far as how Fehr handled baseball, how many labor stoppages have there been since 1995? The NHL should be so lucky.

The NHL won't be that lucky with Fehr at the helm of the PA calling all the shots for the half-twit players...

I heard on the news this morning they have come up with a new twist in the negotiations , let the owners and Players try to hash out an agreement without Fehr and Bettman present at the meetings , some progress just may happen without the major "EGOS" present ..

Wow. It really says something about how the forum (or hockey fans in general, perhaps) feels about the NHL. Not one post about the bad news today.

I have to be honest, when I heard about the news conference with Fehr & Bettman addressing the media about how 'disappointed' they are, I just laughed and rolled my eyes. Apparently, most of you did the same since no one seems to even care about it any more. It's a real shame that yet another labor dispute is destroying the die hard fans like us that we fully expected this to continue and just shrug our shoulders about the whole situation.

I'm really curious how the fans will react when (if) the NHL returns because this seems to be the final straw for some fans.

I'll put it this way: my friend texted me yesterday that there was talk about the lockout possibly ending this weekend, and I just laughed.

I want free Gamecenter Live for this season and next season when this is over. That would be a good "Thanks for sticking around" gift to the fans than some crappy paint of the ice like we got in 2005.

all i know is that i laughed my ass off when bettman and daly threw fehr under the bus and called his ass out for lying about being close when in all truthfulness, there was no way they could be considering that fehr wanted mediation brought back to the table.

the fact that fehr couldn't give the nhl and yes or no the what they wanted shows that fehr does not want to make a deal...it's easy to see for those putting full blame on the owners.

Fuk both the owners and players. It's clear they don't care about the fans. Can't wait for the St. Charles Chill to start in the CHL next year. Thats where my money will be going.

Not going to happen with Fehr or Bettman leading this bus.

This is beyond what's actually in the proposals now. If you can't see this is clearly a case of pride and wanting to "win" from Bettman and Donald Fehr, you're blind, retarded or both.

Fehr wants HIS proposal to be accepted. He wants to claim yet another victory in his illustrious career of work stoppages (I think we're on 6 for him). Bettman wants HIS proposal so he claim victory and be the one who brought the game back.

If it wasn't a case of pride, the league and PA should be able to bridge the minor issues that hang in the balance. Remember, the NBA and NFL just went through the exact same things with nearly identical issues to be resolved, and once one side relented and didn't worry about pride and winning, the deals were done and those sports were back on. Not the case with Bettman and Fehr. They're both two toxic to this process and care so much about "winning" that they can't and won't actually negotiate.
