And this still has nothing to do with what's going on in the NHL.
Ignoring the rest of your comment and the slippery slope of unions, it is quite clear you have never taken an economics class. Supply and demand is ABSOLUTELY relative to athletes and their salaries. Ticket prices are a factor. Save me the trouble of typing it and google it, or check this link.

If this was not the case why would the owners have not taken the players from the AHL and made them the new NHL? Because demand isn't there to watch them play.

The players have the ability to demand what they determine is a fair slice of the pie, because they are irreplaceable, and there is not much the owners can do short of canceling the season. However, demand is still there for the players, which is why most are playing overseas.

Does society suffer because there is no NHL? The "specialized training" the players possess allows them to play a game. You're talking about entertainers like they even remotely play a role in the core of society.

How much skill does it take to be a garbage man? Would you rather have a society with unskilled garbage men, or specially trained hockey players?

One is relevant, the other isn't.
Very well said. Hockey 'players' get paid way to much for what they do - nobody but a hockey 'player ' will argue otherwise.

You asked the rhetorical question in your post "If this was not the case why would the owners have not taken the players from the AHL and made them the new NHL?" There is a correct answer to that question and it's not the one you provided. The reason the owners can't bring up guys from the AHL to play on their teams is because the NHLPA won't allow it!

No matter how you slice it, unions SUCK! If AHL guys were brought up they would be blocked by NHL players holding SCAB placards yet the NHL players go overseas and steal work from guys who actually need the money. Talk about having your cake and eating it too. The NHLPA is full of the most greedy, self centered a-holes on the planet who don't give a **** about anything or anyone other than themselves. This cannot be argued as their actions prove the point beyond contention.

This discussion is really only based on the NHLPA, not all labor unions. That is a completely different discussion for a different thread.

That being said, i do agree with you on your stance on the NHLPA, however I would also like to add that the OWNERS SUCK TOO.

In this case... ALL PARTIES INVOLVED SUCK.

Wow

Yes sir,

The fellows from Buffalo, Detroit, and Gary all agree that the Unions suck!

"I can hire one half of the laboring class to kill the other half"

Well done gents.

All the best!

Wrong. I said the NHLPA "union" sucked. More to the point I said the mouthpiece for the millionaires "union" sucked. Millionaires and billionaires squabbling aren't going to get any sympathy from me. Your quote is funny. The fact that you consider pro hockey players the "laboring class" is comical.

Way to put words in my mouth!

All the best!

I hope no one is getting optimistic. An outlined schedule just means that in the slim chance everyone agrees on a new deal, there's a schedule in place. I personally find it ridiculous they keep planning games when no one is even close to agreeing.

Yeah I agree. We need to see how this whole mediation plays out first anyway.

I don't want them to play this year. I think the "season" would only be treated like an apology to the fans in an attempt to regain potential future revenue. I think more attention would be put on bringing back the fans and licking their asses than to actually playing hockey.

F*ck it. Let all the self righteous pricks lose money over this.

Killah , dont know if you heard or not but team Canada took a hit on "D" for the upcoming world Juniors , Ryan Murray (Everett Silvertips WHL , Columbus second pick overall ) has suffered a season ending shoulder injury , that opens up a spot for Ryan Murphy from the Kitchener Rangers of the OHL , just have to wait and see ..

Yeah, an apology $150 per seat at a time...

The season isn't happening. I would say there's a 20-35 percent chance of salvage. And if the game total dips dramatically below 50, i say the NHL owners and mang' won't let it happen regardless.
