NHL 2006-07 Award: Hart Memorial Trophy

HART MEMORIAL TROPHY

The Hart Memorial Trophy is awarded annually "to the player adjudged to be the most valuable to his team," as selected by the Professional Hockey Writers' Association.

MARTIN BRODEUR - Goaltender, New Jersey Devils

· A Hart Trophy finalist for the third time in the past four seasons; finished third in both 2002-03 and 2003-04.
· Won an NHL-record 48 games, surpassing Bernie Parent's 47 in 1973-74; also led NHL goaltenders in games (78), shutouts (12); ranked third in GAA (2.18) and save percentage (.922).

SIDNEY CROSBY - Center, Pittsburgh Penguins

· A Hart Trophy finalist for the first time; also a finalist for the Lester B. Pearson Award.
· Captured the Art Ross Trophy as the NHL’s leading scorer with 120 points (36 goals, 84 assists); at 19 years, seven months, the youngest scoring leader in major pro sports history.
· The youngest Hart finalist since Edmonton's Wayne Gretzky (19) captured his first in 1979-80.

ROBERTO LUONGO - Goaltender, Vancouver Canucks

· A Hart Trophy finalist for the first time; also a finalist for the Vezina, Pearson awards.
· Compiled a 47-22-6 record in 76 games, including a 26-7-5 mark when facing 30+ shots; matched the NHL single-season victories record entering the season (Bernie Parent, 1973-74).
· Also among leaders in shots faced (third, 2,169) and save percentage (fourth, .921).

Roberto Luongo was the Canucks. Brodeur was arguably better, but nobody in the league was more valuable.

Roberto deserves it, though he probably won't get it.

The NHL hangs from Brodeur's and Sidney's cock.

After watching the playoffs, I'm changing my initial vote from Sid to Luongo. Talk about brilliance above and beyond the call of being a goaltender. The only thing he didnt do was give himself goal support.

Playoffs don't count towards voting though, jkidd.

On a side note, when is the Awards show this year?

Playoffs, don't count, this is true. I think, as good as Luongo was and how important he was to the Canucks, they could have still been a playoff team with a different top goalie. I think the Pens without Crosby are bottom-feeders.

This is true and it's not even debatable. Penguins minus Crosby = suck.

Remember, MVP to his team, not the league...

Luongo did it all for the Canucks, with the exception fo the Sedins. Crosby had a good supporting cast in Pittsburgh, no way did he do it all himself.

I'll debate it, they have Roberts,Malkin,Stall,Armstrong, etc. It pains me to say it but the Kid does deserve a trophy.

Crosby. Marty and Roberto can fight over the Vezina. IMO, if Crosby misses any time this season, the Pens would have been battling Philly for another lottery pick. Reguardless of supporting cast, the Pens are nothing without him.

Brodeur has a solid team in front of him, as does Vancouver. Pittsburgh iced a team that at the beginning of the season should probably have been relegated to the AHL. Crosby didn't do it all for the Penguins, but he did the heavy lifting.

Luongo.

I truly feel that without his efforts the Canucks would not have made it as far as they did. He earned it.

Marty broke the record for most wins in a season and played in 78 games.
