Carkner.... Pass with flying colors

Boyle.... Fail

Boyle took it upon himself to throw rabbit punches at the opposing teams star and most valuable player. Sh!t like that doesn't fly. i don't want to hear about a mugging, an assault or being jumped. Boyle has to be accountable for his actions. Carkner came over and gave him the opportunity (yes it was brief) to stand up for himself and drop the gloves. If Boyle drops the gloves and takes a beating anyway then so be it. I would respect him for standing up for himself and I'm sure most people here would too.

Carkner clearly had instructions to send the message that roughing up their star player was absolutely not tolerated. He gave Boyle a chance to fight but he declined. Carkner had a job to do and wouldnt take no for an answer. He followed through sending the mesaage with an old school beating on a turtling Boyle.

I thought it was a fantastic example of players policing themselves and really refreshing to see some old school enforcing.

This thread is a total fail. Carkner showed everyone who the baddest motherf*cker on the ice is, and his team won the game, and would've won again last night if not for Lundqvist. It's not like this gave the Rags momentum or anything, they just have a really good goalie who gets them wins like he has all season.

And hardly put any fear in his eyes? Riiiight. He froze like a f*cking deer in head lights. If I throw unprovoked gloved punches at another team's superstar and Matt Carkner comes and grips me up, I'm getting my hands up to defend myself. Boyle didn't. He froze.

But you're probably right, Boyle was so un-intimidated that I bet he'll be looking to exact revenge on Carkner the first time he sees him out there next time.

Uh......when are people going to realize Boyle is not a fighter! He stood up to Neil and "dropped his gloves" and last time I checked Neil is no walk around!!! And how someone can someone say "fail" Boyle is beyond me!!!! You have freaking clue about hockey if you say that. He has been the most noticable player on both teams. Scored in each game....fought...and continues to bury the Sens. Maybe he didn't drop his gloves to draw a penalty.....only he knows what he was thinking at the time. He is only face to face with the guy who last season ended tough guy's careers!

He should have thought about that when he decided to give Ottawa's superstar a series of rabbit punches.

He obviously didn't and took a beating for it. Maybe now he'll remember.

And then sat down two seconds later. And he has 6 inches and 40 pounds on him. You're really giving him credit for that?

Here is the absolute bottomline that I am amazed that noone gets:

If the Rangers scored 2 or 3 goals on the Carkner major penalty and won game 2, Carkner would of looked like an idiot and been killed. If now the Senators were down 3-0 instead of 2-1, Carkner would be getting killed for being stupid and selfish and not engaging Boyle in a smart manner like Neil did.
Carkner was just lucky that the Rangers PP didn't take advantage and now he looks smart.
Last night Boyle answered Carkner being the best Ranger on the ice other than Hank scoring his 3rd goal in 3 games. Boyle showed major guts last night and was the hero!

Boyle wouldn't have done that had Carkner been on the ice!

We get it.....he sucks as a fighter.....but last time I checked he has all 3 of your big Flyers tough guys on his card (Shelly, Sestito, and Simmonds)....and don't give me this height/weight crap!!! Neil fights everyone and usually does well against the big guys. Tell ex-players Domi, Stock, Bassen, Dimaio, etc that David can't beat Goliath!!! Get real man!

What your not getting is that the whole feeling of the series shifted when Carkner took some action. Carkner was surprised that Boyle the guy with major guts didn't stand up for himself . Carkner is surely going to instigate
a fight with him he has to know this. Boyle took shots at the star of the Sens in game one,the Rangers were having their way with the Sens in game one. All of the post game talk was about how the Rangers manhandled the Sens. They showed the hilite of Boyle punching Karlsson over and over to show how the tough Rangers handled the Sens. If the Sens do nothing in game two, easy series for the Rangers. Everyone would be talking about how the Sens didn't protect their star, how they were pushed around. Well as it turns out they killed the penalty for the most part and the Sens played alot different since that point. Now its a tough series.

Carkner with a Pass...

They won game two. The message sent did not hurt the Sens. It hurt the Rags more... Dubs for Carkner trade off... I think I would take that. Had the Rags scored a couple then I can see the purpose of asking pass or fail

They should have won game three but Hank played amazing... could have easily been 3 -1, 4 -1 if it wasn't for him... even though Boyle scored.

Boyle has played well but I would say it is because he was so inspired by turtling... and then taking on Neil... that is like asking if the Avs were inspired when Lemieux turtled and McCarty pounded him (I know, Boyle was jumped, whatever).

With that said, I can see Boyle winning the Conn Smythe if the Rags make it to the finals and I am sure everyone will point to the "Carkner incident" as the primary reason. For those unsure = sarcasm

Wait, I thought he "doesn't fight."

Which one is it?

Although you're right, I'm not sure I'd actually call what he does fighting. More like grab on, eat a few then turtle.

And Tie Domi and P.J. Stock have nothing to do with the fact that Boyle doesn't come out as some kind of tough guy because he dropped the gloves with a guy considerably smaller than him and immediately bailed.

Carkner gets the biggest pass you can ever receive, it was a great response to the sens being pushed around in game 1, he layed out the biggest maxi pad on the Rangers and it just all comes back around too if Boyle doesn't want to fight then he can still play hard and not get involved, but when you get involved you can't say you didn't know something was coming. And the senators have played like a team since then which is what the playoffs is all about.

Super pass.
