Ducks Name Bob Murray Senior VP of Hockey Operations
Anaheim, Calif. – The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim announced today that Bob Murray has been named Senior Vice President of Hockey Operations. In his role, Murray will report directly to Executive Vice President and General Manager Brian Burke.
Murray’s responsibilities will include oversight of all aspects of player development, including Anaheim’s American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate in Portland, Maine. Murray will also have a chief role in the club’s professional scouting efforts, contract negotiations and all matters relating to the National Hockey League. “Bob Murray is an experienced, hard-working and successful hockey executive with a solid track record,” said Burke. “His expertise in player evaluation will be a great asset for us.” Murray most recently worked as a professional scout with the Vancouver Canucks from 1999 to 2005. Prior to being hired in Vancouver, he served as a scouting consultant for Anaheim during the 1998-99 season. He was a member of the Chicago Blackhawks organization for 28 years, culminating with three seasons as the team’s general manager. Drafted by the Blackhawks in 1974, Murray spent his entire 1,008-game career in a Chicago uniform. Known for his work ethic, intelligence and determination as a player, Murray remained with the organization as a professional scout following his retirement in 1990. A year later (1991), he was named the director of player personnel with Chicago and was largely responsible for the club’s entry draft selections over the next eight seasons. In 1995, Murray was named the club’s Assistant General Manager. He spent two seasons in that role, before being named Chicago’s General Manager on July 3, 1997. |
