Does a fight win a series? Malkin vs Zetterberg

When watching that fight it seemed as if that fight turned the momentum. But in the philly vs pens series that messed up philly and the pens won . I think it was carcillo vs talbot, although talbot lost it energized the pens. What are your thoughts on this. Can a fight win or lose a series?

Even though the pens lost one to detroit at home, it definitely seemed like the pens were not gonna lay down and take it. You could actually see the energy or the swag of the mighty red wings dip.

it can definitly sway the outcome of a series. Momentum is a dangerous thing, and these little sparks of energy sure seemed to help pitts.

It's not like Blades of Steel, where you get a powerplay for winning a fight; not that clear cut. But two guys dropping the gloves can energize a bench, and make your guys feel pumped if it's a close game.

Chris Neil started fighting all over the place at the beginning of the season this past year; didn't do **** to help the Sens win any games, though.

Malkin and Zetterberg, gets EVERYSOUL into the game

Neil and Boll, would just be another go around, where your excited but it doesn't get the juices flowing nearly the way two randoms would.

It's one of many factors that go into winning or losing.

You guys nailed it, the guys who are supposed to fight have to do their job, but that's not always enough to get a team going. When the entire team sees arguably their best or 2nd best player getting so fired up and emotional that he's actively going after another guy, and especially when you get the reaction that Zetterberg gave(sorry, Grittz, guy's a puss with the rough stuff) it can really spark your team. Sometimes the two tough guys going at it and having a good scrap wakes the crowd up too, which in turn lifts the team.

The Pens didnt lose one at home to the Wings and I dont believe the Malkin/Zetterberg fight had anything to do with the outcome of the series.

A fight might turn the tide on a single game like the Pens/Flyers game you mentioned but not an entire series.

I'd really like to hear how the Malkin/Zetterberg fight propelled the Pens to win game 7 though.

Well, yeah. Carcillo lost the Pens-Flyers series for Philly.

C'mon dude, are you kidding me? I sure hope so.

I like fights as much as anyone and they can give a team energy, but one fight does NOT decide a freakin' playoff series. That should be common sense to anyone with a brain.

Sorry but this is a very stupid question. The Malkin/Zetterberg fight had nothing to do with the Pens winning.

Agreed. That's not to say fights haven't been major factors in past series and games. The Lecavalier-Iginla fight in the 2004 Stanley Cup Finals was definitely a major momentum shifter in the series if you want a more clear-cut example.

That was a captain-captain fight. That probably meant a lot more to the teams then a regular fight.

Exactly.

If this was a fight, wouldn't have Malkin been suspended for instigating?

Even Bettman knows it wasn't. And that's saying something!
