Even as the NHL's regular season remains shrouded in uncertainty with the threat of a lockout, the long-awaited sale of the Phoenix Coyotes is actually coming more clearly into focus.

A source confirmed to ESPN.com Tuesday evening that suitor Greg Jamison, the former president and CEO of the San Jose Sharks, has finally arranged financing that would allow him to purchase the team from the National Hockey League for $170 million, and that any issues with the lease agreement between the City of Glendale and Jamison's investors for Jobing.com Arena, where the Coyotes play, are expected to be resolved by the end of September.

Among the investors, who have to this point remained unidentified, are some members of the Ice Edge Group, a collection of Canadian and American businessmen who at one point were front-runners to buy the team themselves, the source told ESPN.com.

to be honest...the sale might or might not go thru. but if it does, how in the hell can he deal with all the money that he's gonna lose each year considering all the trouble he's had trying to get this deal together.

for the league to let this go on as long as they have, its pathetic and sad. after the 3rd failed attempt buttman should have said you're out, but because he won't admit he ****ed up by letting them move somewhere where fans will come out and support the team and not just at playoff time.

the city is subsidizing the team in the tune of about 14 million a year.

They could still lose money no doubt. But with secure ownership and the playoff run they had last year perhaps the gap could be bridged who knows. It's a gamble by the investors but looks like the politicians are getting skiddish.

Skeete says he hopes to have finalized numbers with Jamison by the end of the week.

So what about that done deal now?

apparantly jamieson and the council have agreed to a amendment of the lease and will ratify Oct. 9.
He says he has the funds in place.
The lease is in place.
it's finally going to happen until something else comes up.

They say it should be done at the end of the month.

Coyotes move to Quebec in 2013. In 2014 the Oilers move from Edmonton to Phoenix.
