One hell of a series Hawks. Sorry thrubes, I know it's your team brother, but someone had to win. If the Hawks went on to win this series I'd be on the bandwagon.

Yotes need to rest for the 2nd round.
And this is why Sir you have exposed yourself as a new hockey fan.

For as long as I have been watching hockey great goaltending and gritty play win in the playoffs.
Yes the Hawks have the prettier players but the Coyotes have a good group of HOCKEY players.

Smith was phenomonal. NO doubt about it. Best playoff goaltending I have seen in a long time. But there is no quit in this Coyote team. Look at the adversity with the Torres suspension and the slew of injuries they suffered in this series. But much like everything they've had to overcome the last three seasons with the franchise being in limbo they have developed a lot of intestinal fortitude.

The coyotes deserved to win this series. If it was to be played again next week we would have the same outcome. No doubt.

playoffs are a different situation like we saw with Bryz choking but I like the makeup of smith, he's the opposite of bryz.
Smith is the man!!!

Chicago played much better these past few games.... However Mike Smith was absolutely unreal.

Congrats to the Yotes and their fans.
Enjoy it while it lasts.. Quebec is calling.

How do you figure a team getting outshot twice the amount of their shots is going to hold up? Smith played out of his mind but he couldnt do that another 4 games. The coyotes had 2 shots in 25 minutes of play to the hawks 25. The coyotes were anemic on offense and Crawford was sub par the whole series. No way Phoenix would want to redo that series.

New NHL old NHL you can't win when you don't shoot. Half of the shots the coyotes scored on were stoppable pucks on a decent goalie. No way Phoenix revisits this series and wins with the performance they put together the last 2 games. Smith would eventually break down with no offense.

Needless to say I am glad the series is over with the coyotes moving forward.

You think this is the first time this has happened?

Great goaltending is part of a team. A huge part. Phoenix made a shrewd move signing Smith and it's paid off. Chicago spends it's money on offensive players and not goalies. They won the Cup so it's paid off before.

Why wouldnt Smith suddenly be able to stop pucks if you had anothe series? That's a ridiculous claim. The Yotes defense did a good job of clearing rebounds and the front of the net. Most of the shots were on the net and rebound cleared.
Phoenix at times outplayed Chicago in the series esp. the beginning part. then injuries started to hit them.
They still won because instead of folding there tents when getting outshot they reached deep and scored some goals.
They won the deciding game 4-0.
Your a huge Coyotes homer and then they finally win a series and you're saying they shouldnt have won it.
bizzare.

Beau, you're a respectable poster and 90% of the time I'm eye to eye with you. However, you send so many shots on net they're bound to go in. Smith made atleast 8 highlight reel saves this series. He lets 3 of those go in and the series is changed. I'm a huge coyotes fan and a homer at times when need be, but you usually don't win games being out shot like that. Not to mention the puck possession the last two games was none existant for the coyotes. I'm beside myself that we took the series, no doubt about it, but the way things were going the last two games the team relied on smith too much.

Anyone who watched that game knew we were out played by a large margin.

The Yotes have a roster full of guys with heart,we have 3:Toews,Shaw,Seabrook. Roster full of heart and superb goaltending can make for quite a run.

That's right on what I'm trying to convey here.

Heart and great goaltending is stanley cup recipe. Not that the Yotes will win the cup although you never know. too many injuries and not enough depth. But wow what heart they have shown.

Toews is unreal. Best player on ice outside of Smith.

Definitely surprised by the outcome of this series, but a great example of how a hot goalie can carry a team in the playoffs. Mike Smith was unbelievable, and the Hawks couldn't overcome that barrier.

Phoenix-Nashville has the makings of a VERY low-scoring series.

so that's agreement #10?? ill believe when i see it but eh

rasner i saw your shots are bound to go in comment and the only true response is, they only go in if shot at the proper location on the net. alot of shots the hawks took were into his pads or logo on his jersey. now that's not taking anything away from smith and what he did, just an honest response about why some of his stats are "blown up"

You cant be serious. The guy is 6'4 and quick as a cat. He's in position many times to let the "puck hit him" but last night he was unreal. Those were labeled shots to the corners that he was thrwarting. What the yotes did real well was clear the rebounds.
some of the best playoff goaltending I have seen.

And I hear you on the "agreement number 10" it's become quite the soap opera but this jamieson guy has been pretty low key. He even said recently that he doesnt want to raise hopes, the deal may not get done. the Glendale city manager said they are "very close". so who knows.
