Bruins are playing pretty good hockey but they need more emotion. Thornton looked like he tried to get Erskine interested in a little scrap a couple of times. I think the B's need the series to get a little nasty. They always play better when its nasty. Last night they didn't hit nearly as much as in game 3. Ramp it up in Boston. Holtby is playing great but the B's have to make it a little unpleasant in that crease area. He is seeing most of the shots and covering the rebounds easily.

Pouliot, Peverley, Kelly and Rolston have shown up....where the hell is Lucic --especially-- Marchand, Bergeron, Seguin?
Bruins keep trying to force the play to the middle and there is NOTHING there. And the point shots aren't working either...Sure we racked up the shot total on Holtby (who the ****?) but we just need to pour it on...and that includes PHYSICAL PLAY. Don't even get me started on how bad the B's are when it comes to getting out of their defensive zone...something needs to give. To me, it doesn't look like everyone is showing up to play. I hope they don't think that since they're champs their gonna breeze through each team...the other team probably wants it more. Oh and Shanahan stay the F*CK outta this series, there is absolutely 0 need to send warnings to the teams. 0.

The Caps seem to be playing a sort of trap/opportunist style of scheme. The bruins will flood Holtby with shots and then BAM! the Caps get a turnover or lucky bounce and it's off to the races. They did have a nice dominant stretch in the second period last night. they basically controlled play the entire second half of the 2nd.
We are not getting anything through this Caps defense. Every shot is blocked or deflected and the shots that are on net Holtby is seeing too clearly. We aren't making it difficult for him at all. It looks like he is catching everything, which leads me to believe that he is seeing the puck well. I'm not saying he isn't play great-he is-but we're not doing what we need to make things difficult for him. The caps collapse down real tight and leave us the perimeter and are able to get to loose pucks before we can. the caps have really clogged up the shooting lanes. I thought the caps defense was great in games 1 and 2 and that Holtby was brought down to earth in game 3. but he was great in game 4. What scares me is a hot goalie can really take you places in the playoffs and i hope this isn't the case for our sake. The bruins are a physical team but they have stretches where they are outhit completely. i remember the first few games against Vanocuver in last years finals and they were burying us with HUGE hits; destroying us and anyone will tell you we're the more physical team of the two. i saw us get run out of the building this year against Montreal. It's weird and an oddity that a physical team like boston can be outhit big time by teams you wouldn't expect it from. Last nights game could have been played without a single penalty call for either team. A few of those calls-the Boychuk call and especially the Bergeron call should not have been made in the playoffs. These ticky tack calls are killing the game. Absolutely killing the game because they are so inconsistant. You could make similar sh!tty calls on every shift-but they want to make the powerplay the deciding factor. i don't get it. Another thing that should be mentioned, the bruins play so well when they are playing with emotion. we were just starting to get that with game 3-then Shanahan makes a call. Just terrible. The Bruins are in a must win situation right now. I don't want to be down 3-2 going back to DC.

Quality is better than quantity...the B's could have had 70 shots on goal last night and still probably would have lost. They need to start crashing the net, put Chara in front of the net on the PP and try and screen Holtby and create and convert some rebounds. They better come out hitting tomorrow and set the tempo or they will be in trouble.

Julien has told them Marchand dropped the 4th line and Seguin to the 3rd line. This could blow up in his face, as far as momentum goes the Caps have to have taken that. Getting back Backstrom today

It KILLS me to say this but Hunter is coaching this team very well. He's got Erskine keeping his gloves on, the D is collapsing back and allowing no rebounds. Brooks Laich is turning into a clutch playoff guy. I do not agree with benching Ovechkin though. That guy is a machine and I don't think that's how you motivate him.
The B's are just not clicking. It's like they are skating with 2 left feet right now. |
