Brenden Morrow Named Stars Captain

Frisco, TX - The Dallas Stars have named left wing Brenden Morrow the club’s fifth captain since moving to Dallas prior to the 1993-94 NHL season.

Morrow, 27, signed a six-year contract extension through the 2012-13 season on September 21 and set career-highs in assists (42) and points (65) last season. Dallas’ first-round selection (No. 25 overall) in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft, Morrow was the only player in the NHL last season to register more than 20 goals and 125 penalty minutes.

Morrow is Captain?

Now that is awesome. Too bad the Stars won't get anywhere this season.

Morrow is in for some tough years with the Stars. As long as he plays the way he has in the past, this team will be worth watching.

He's the kind of player who deserves the C. Good decision.

My thoughts exactly...

If not Mike, then Morrow would have been the next best choice.

I was expecting Modano to get the C. Morrow is the ideal captain type player. But Modano is their franchise player, hes been a big part of the stars forever. I think they made a mistake here, but im probably the lone one in saying that.

This was a management/coaching staff decision and Doug Armstrong said Modano and Tippet had more than a couple of discussions about it. Modano has said that wearing the "C" after Hatcher left was no big deal, so we'll see.

This will be an interesting thing to watch. Morrow is a great, young player, but 'Captain" either doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things or means that this is a part of the ongoing adjustments Army/Tippet are making for their continuing dismal results. ****ty preseason+playoff choke=distraction.

I could care less and I bet Modano thinks the same thing.

perfect fit for the Stars with Modano's contract ending in a couple of years and Morrow just signing the 6 year extension it's a great move. The organization has chosen to build around Morrow which is ideal right now for this team. I think it's a good sign for things to come in Dallas and as far as the Stars going no where this year, you've lost your mind. They've added grit, speed and have stated their closer this year then they've ever been. I look for a 5th-7th seed in the playoffs this year. By the way Modano is wearing the A this year along with Zubov. You can see the interviews on dallasstars.com Modano, Tippett and Morrow are all on there.

I think he is a better lockerroom leader, and team leader

Consider my mind lost then. I like the Stars. They have my current favorite player on thier roster. Morrow. They still go nowhere this season.

Really. Among the other STELLAR offseason moves is Lindros. This guy plays scared. For good reason.

I see that and raise you a first round exit.
Feel the pain brother. Blackhawks win Stanley in 5 over Sens.
