Blue Jackets Issue Statement Regarding Alexander Svitov

COLUMBUS, OHIO – Columbus Blue Jackets General Manager Scott Howson issued the following statement today after learning that center Alexander Svitov has signed a contact with Avangard Omsk of the Russian Super League and will play with the club in the 2007-08 season. He signed a two-year contract with Columbus on July 2, 2007.

“We were informed by Alexander’s agent today that he has signed a contract to play with Avangard Omsk this season,” Howson said. “We will explore the situation in greater detail with respect to Alexander’s contract status and will make a decision after reviewing our options. While this news comes as a disappointment, it creates an opportunity for other players when we open training camp next month.”

The Blue Jackets will participate in the annual Prospects Tournament in Traverse City, Michigan September 7-12. The club will open its seventh training camp in Columbus with physicals and strength & conditioning testing on Thursday, September 13 and on-ice workouts on Friday, September 14.

The guy works himself up to the NHL, signs a contract with the club, and then ****s them over once he undoubtedly gets a better offer to play in his own country. In other words don't come back, you Euro fu*k.

First Yashin goes back to Russia, now Svitov follows suit. This could be the best offseason ever!!!

I've hated Svitov since he allegedly spit on a Canadian player in the World Juniors a handful of years ago. I hope he bumps into a handful of other big Russians who hide behind their visors when he goes back home.

And don't get me wrong, I love the fact he fights, but to fight a guy like Richard Park of all people and still hide behind your visor. Man, how low is that?

F*ckin pansy thinks he's a tough guy. I hate the guy. I'm glad to see him go back to Russia.

Funny they give him only a 2-way-contract and now they wonder that he prefers to stay in Russia were he'll get more money.
What is so surprising about that?

Ditto....and hopefully the commy bastrard stays over there. The NHL was/is infested with to many Europeans taking away North American jobs, that are just a bit to dirty for these pansies to do. Most european players are highly skilled but teams woud be better off with guys who are better equipped fight, hit, win the corner battles, basically do the dirty work. Look no further than Anaheim. Excluding Pahlsson.

That was Brian Sutherby. I was always hoping Sutherby would get revenge on Svitov in the NHL but he never did.
