Amount of penalties...

Dunno is it just me or has anyone else noticed that refs have whistled a lot less soft penalties than say last year..?!? I've watched a few games and it seems refs are actually letting the players play and not be calling those iffy penalties all the time..?!?

Any thoughts..?

Watching the Rangers-Devils game from last night, you could have fooled me. Every other second, they were calling the same ticky-tack penalties that annoyed us all last year.

Once again I have tried to watch these awful games but get turned off by the constant hooks, holds and interferance calls and have turned channels before the end of the 1st period so I have not noticed any difference.

i wish there was some place that kept the stats of ref teams.

like who calls the most penalties, most hookings, most instigators, who has the lowest number of fight majors, etc.

It was awful in the Pittsburgh vs. Philly game tonight. Many BS calls on both teams. The first real penalty didn't come until the end of the second period when Crosby tripped Hartnell behind the Penguins' net.

I just wish it would stop, because the Kings picked the wrong NHL ERA to suck at Killing penalities.

I'm sure Buttman sent down orders to the refs to call anything and everything to make sure the game "didn't get out of hand" (read: interesting and fun to watch). He does that with every "rivalry" game. Makes me sick.

I have. Penalty minutes are down because obstruction calls are being called less this year, so far
