2013 Eastern Semis: 1 Pittsburgh vs 7 Ottawa

Pittsburgh Penguins vs Ottawa Senators

Their runs so far...
Quarterfinals: Pittsburgh beat NY Islanders, 4-2. Ottawa beat Montreal, 4-1.

Season series:
1/27/13: Pittsburgh 2 at Ottawa 1 SO
2/13/13: Ottawa 2 at Pittsburgh 4
4/22/13: Pittsburgh 3 at Ottawa 1

Series fights:

Robert Bortuzzo vs Zack Smith, Apr 22, 2013

Robert Bortuzzo vs Zack Smith Apr 22, 2013 -...

All-time head-to-head W-L-T:
Pittsburgh leads 54-37-9

Last playoff meeting:
2010 Quarterfinals: Pittsburgh won 4-2.

Schedule:
TBA

Offense: Edge Pittsburgh
Defense: Edge Ottawa
Goaltending: Win Ottawa
Power Play: Win Pittsburgh
Penalty Kill: Win Ottawa
Toughness: Win Ottawa

Prediction: Ottawa in 6. With stellar defense and goaltending during the regular season, the Senators were a scoring touch away from being a legitimate threat in the playoffs. They found an offensive groove against Montreal in the first round.

It looked like the Penguins will have to start Vokoun in order to keep this a close series. Pittsburgh has a lot of forward power in their own right, and they were successful during the regular season against Ottawa, but this Ottawa team has looked like a more complete team in the playoffs so far.

Both team are scoring at a 4 goals/game clip in the playoffs, so I think this series will come down to how both teams compete in their own end. I believe Ottawa has a big advantage there.

If Vokoun plays, Sens in 6. He will at least keep the Pens in it while they're being constantly stoned by Anderson and giving the puck away like it's Christmas. However, if Fleury plays, then Sens in 5.

If the Pens play as listless as they did in the last game against NYI, Sens can win it in 6. Isles came close with the worst goalie in the playoffs. Anderson will need to steal them a game. But if they turn on beast mode I can't see Ottawa keeping up.

The real question mark for me is Spezza. Looks like he may be back for game 2 or 3. Would be a HUGE addition to the offense.

That is the entire problem with the Pens. They only turn on beast mode whenever they feel like it, and as a result, you get games like they played last night far more often than they should. I truly believe that if they played every game like they played game 1 against the Isles, there is no team in the league that can beat them. But you only see that maybe once or twice a series, and that isn't good enough. That is why, IMO, they will be hitting the links by Memorial Day.

This was my problem with Ottawa, back when they were something to sneeze at. FFS, Hossa, Havlat, Chara, a perennial all-star team, but they looked so listless out on the ice, year in, year out. For whatever lack of experience and talent the Senators have now, the Sens-Habs series was the most "heart" I've ever seen them play with, before. I hope that gives them the edge.

Totally different series for both teams. I think the Pens look better this series, while being able to score on Anderson. Pens in 6.

Pens in 5 maybe 6 I don't think people are giving Islanders enought credit plus there speed hurt the penguins. Ottawa is a more physical team which plays more into Pittsburgh hands. I think most games will be close and if the Penguins get above average goaltending I can see them moving on

I take Ottawa in an upset. I'm going with the better goalie for this series. Pitt is leaky and I like that Ottawa is more physical, Pitt is loaded with guys who don't like to get hit so I'd love to see Crosby and Malkin get bashed and smashed and Pitt is a little beat up, i think they got pretty lucky to escape the Islanders.

Some possible fights in this series but the longer it goes, the less chance of any fights.

Sens with the upset in 6 or 7

I honestly don't know. If Fleury plays, I think Ottawa takes this. If Vokoun plays, I like the Pens' chances better, even though they struggled against the Islanders in the first round. The Penguins are the best team in the East by far on paper, but that first round didn't show it.

I hate it when there's something I want to happen. And it very well may be something that should happen... But there's just far too many people drinking the KoolAid. And those are the times I second guess my gut.

Gut and first round performances say Sens in 6 or 7.

But if I had money on it I'd pick the Pens in 5. It's a trap!
