Not sure if this was posted yet but as part of their punishment for the Cap Circumvention with the Kovalchuk deal, the Devils let the dead line pass without giving up their 1st round pick this year.

The Devils were required to give up either their 2011, 2012, 2013, or 2014 1st round pick. Obviously, with winning the lottery pick last year, they didn't give up their 2011 pick. In a strange move, as Stanley Cup runner-up, they will have the 29th 1st round pick this year but didn't give up their pick.

they will now be required to give up either their 2013 or 2014 1st round pick.

EDIT: Tom Gulitti‏@TGfireandice: Lou Lamoriello said deadline was not Tuesday.

That just seems like it's just flat out terrible management. Why the hell would they not give this years pick up? I'd be pissed if I were a Devils fan.

there is talk that lou might use it as trade bait to get a 2nd 1st round pick in one of the next two drafts so that he won't "lose" the pick after all things are settled.

Devils might be interested in Subban if he's still available at #30

Gaunce is a kid I like a lot and could be a first round pick. Talented, as well as a fighter. Sort of like Biggs last year he has some frame and the ability to score as well.

I heard the Sens were very interested in Subban. Dont know why after they traded for Bishop.

I think its smart the Devils kept thier pick. They are rather low on forward prospects for the next season, might as well get a kid now and start developing him rather than wait 2 more years.

Henrique, Josefson, and Tedenby are really the only ones they got. Elias, Zubrus, and Sykora will not likely be around in 2-3 years. Also having Parise as a question mark this offseason as well. The Devils have always been late round pickers so its not like Lou doesnt know how to draft diamonds in the ruff.
