10 Minutes For Staged Fights?
Flippin through the net I ran across this article from AXcess News. Never heard of the news organization but they had an article on hockey fights. This site is mentioned in it twice. How many of you have heard about this possibility of 10 minutes for staged fights and leaving that decision up to the ref on ice?

I have no idea, that change was proposed at mid-summer meetings this year and was shot down by the competition committee, at the same time they tried to vote on at least upping the number of instigators before a suspension was given, with no success on that either.

Axcess News needs to get with the times. Could be why we've never heard of them.

I think I remember a quote from Laraque on this topic, and it went something like "Me and the other guy will just skate away after the face-off an just meet up along the boards 10 seconds later"...

In my opinion, giving the current NHL ref's any more responsibility/obligation regarding fights is a terrible idea. Whether the ref's are influenced by Bettman or not, the "upper management" as a whole needs to stop trying to change the game.

u deserve 10 minutes for just hearing about this now.. old news haha its worth being brought up tho even this as far as the nhl is concerned this matter is closed..


it will never work in my opinion a staged fight can have more meaning then a spur of the moment fight.. not usually but sometimes

I hear ya, I would think they would want to call that a staged fight. I do not like the idea at all either. I am glad this was passed over. I would not want to be a ref having to consider what is staged, imagine the bs coming off of that and the threads resulting in those type of rules.
