PEI Rocket sign Jack Nevins

The PEI Rocket have signed free-agent forward, Jack Nevins.

Nevins, 6’2” and 200 lbs, played in 59 games last hockey season in the OHL with the Kingston Frontenacs and Sarnia Sting.

He had 5 goals and 6 assists to go with 13 fighting majors and 85 penalty minutes. He started this season with the OHL’s London Knights but a hip injury kept him sidelined for the most part. He did play in 2 games before being released.

Coach Gordie Dwyer says, “ We are always looking to make our team better and when the opportunity arose to sign Jack, we jumped at it. We are looking forward to the presence and grit he adds to our line-up.”

Nevins had other options in the QMJHL as Quebec Remparts and Gatineau Olympiques also showed interest but he felt PEI was the best fit for him.

Nice. I don't know what it is but I just dont have faith in him to be the enforcer. sure he will go with anyone but that doesn't make you the best fighter. he has guts ill give him that just not quite a legit enforcer in my eyes. I've been to 5 games this year so far and just haven't been impressed.

He's lost most of those and that was a surprisingly good showing with Arseneau.

McGrath has basically been a punching bag for the last part of last season and so far this year but he has shown improvement - and you certainly can't question his willingness! Been very active. Hopefully he turns it around.

As far as Nevins goes, he seems to like fighting a wide open style, going toe to toe. He fought a lot of the OHL's top guys and hung in there but seemed to come up a bit short. Throws fast, not sure how much pop he has on his fastball though... Seems to be able to switch hands well too... I'd say he'll be good in the QMJHL.
