Colin Miller Named Greyhounds Captain

Sault Ste. Marie - The Soo Greyhounds Hockey Club announced this evening that COLIN MILLER will serve as the hockey club's captain for the 2012-2013 season. Miller is a native of Sault Ste. Marie, and is in his 3rd season with the hockey club. He was drafted in the 5th Round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft by the Los Angeles Kings.

Miller follows in a long line of Sault Ste. Marie natives to Captain their hometown club. The last Sault Ste. Marie native to serve as the official captain of the club was Tyler Kennedy, who was an integral part of the Hounds before moving on to a fine NHL career with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Miller is presently on the injured list as he recovers from an achilles injury which will see him sidelined for up to 4 weeks.

Serving as alternate captain's this season will be Ryan Sproul, David Broll, and Darnell Nurse. If at any time Miller is unable to play, Sproul will don the Captain's "C" during games. Should any of the designated captains be missing from action, Brandon Alderson and Alex Gudbranson may also serve as alternate captains.

Said Hounds Head Coach Mike Stapleton, " Colin has showed me during the last 15 months that he comes to work every day, and represents our club very well both on and off the ice. You never have to worry about Colin's effort level in the classroom, community, weight room, and on the ice. His example is one that we want all of our players to follow and that, to me, is the definition of a captain."

In 123 career games with Hound Power, Miller has 51 points (11 goals, 40 assists) to go along with a career +11 rating. Miller has also added 127 PIM.

Asked about Miller, Hounds GM Kyle Dubas spoke of Miller's affect on the Hounds young roster and how he worked to rally the club early in the season. "We have the 5th** youngest team in the OHL this season and are carrying 13 sixteen and seventeen year olds right now. That makes it extremely important that the captain of our club provides an example that we want the younger players to follow for years to come. Early in training camp, Colin along with the rest of the leadership group did such a wonderful job of bringing the group together with the other members of the leadership group."

Dubas added, "It is during tough times that true leaders really step up and bring a team together, and these young men who have been named captains today all have shown our staff those qualities over their time here, but this season especially.
