Wheat Kings Release Ryley Miller

Brandon, MB. – The Brandon Wheat Kings have announced that veteran defenceman Ryley Miller has been released and will be placed on Western Hockey League waivers by the club.

Tuesday’s decision leaves the WHL club with three 20-year old players on its active roster – forwards Michael Ferland and Nick Buonassisi as well as defenceman Tyler Yaworski.

All WHL clubs will now have the next 48 hours to put a claim in on the 6' 177 lb. Spruce Grove, Alberta native.
In 38 games with the Wheat Kings this season, Miller had three goals, six points and 99 minutes in penalties.

A former second round bantam draft choice of the Wheat Kings, Miller played in 241 games for the Wheat Kings, scoring eight goals and 37 points while accumulating 537 minutes in penalties.

That is unfortunate. Miller deserves better than that. I hope another team claims him. Hello Vancouver, you have an overage spot open....

No kidding! If they were competing for a playoff spot then sure, make some changes, but a guy in his 5th season with the club? SheesH!

Maybe it was the haircut

The flow itself should make him a desired asset!

I don't see him landing in Edmonton, as I believe they will want more of an upgrade to fill their final overage spot. I also don't see Red Deer claiming him either as they probably want a more impact overager. That only leaves Kootenay and Vancouver as teams with open spots. Both teams are near the bottom of the standings. Vancouver will have first dibs on claiming him. I guess we'll soon find out if there is any interest....

Shitty. Wish they had of waived Buonassisi over Miller.

Hopefully somebody picks him up, that's a shitty way to end a junior career.

I figured they would originally. Then again I expected them to trade Ferland too (although it's still possible he will be moved). Now it looks more and more likely that won't happen. Another dumb move by McCrimmon, IMO. The Wheat Kings aren't going anywhere. They should get whatever they can for Ferland and build for the future.

They already have 3 overagers. Chapman didn't count as he was on the IR all season long.

Giants have no interest in Miller.

Sounds like Miller will be joining the Dauphin Kings of the MJHL. Assuming he clears waivers, which at this point seems likely.

Actually with Mike Simpson being traded to Lethbridge, I wonder if Kootenay claims Miller off waivers? I guess we'll find out soon enough.

Final update. The Ice did claim Miller off waivers but Miller decided not to report to Kootenay. He will finish off his junior hockey career in the MJHL.
