Giants Trade Nathan Burns to Blades for Travis McEvoy & Picks

Today the Vancouver Giants Hockey Club has traded 19-year-old left winger Nathan Burns to the Saskatoon Blades in exchange for 18-year-old center Travis McEvoy, a 3rd Round pick in the 2013 Bantam Draft and a 1st Round pick in the 2014 Bantam Draft.

Burns, a native of Edmonton, Alberta, has three full seasons under his belt as a member of the Giants after being the team’s 7th Round selection in the 2008 Bantam Draft. Burns heads to Saskatoon to become a member of the Blades organization which is set to host this year’s MasterCard Memorial Cup Tournament.

In McEvoy the Giants acquire a 6’0”, 211 lbs center. Last season he tallied 6 goals and 5 assists in 64 games. So far this season he has registered 4 assists in 13 games, with an even plus/minus rating. The native of Thorsby, Alberta will meet up with the Giants on the road, as they head into Cranbrook to take on the Kootenay ICE on Saturday night.

“We would like to wish Nathan all the best in Saskatoon and thank him for his 3+ yrs in our program" says Giants General Manager & Executive VP, Scott Bonner. "With the acquisition of the 1st Round pick on Tuesday and another one today, this should set up a very bright future for this organization."

Wow the Giants hosed the Blades in this deal. Nathan Burns isn't worth a 1st round pick alone. Never mind a 3rd round pick and a roster player.

Sure isn't!

I think the Blades are reaching and getting desperate... already.

Seriously. I understand being a little concerned with the slow start, but the Blades shouldn't be giving up a first rounder unless they are receiving a bonafide proven goal scorer. Burns is certainly not.
