Giants Lose Marek Tvrdon for Season

The Vancouver Giants announce today that left winger Marek Tvrdon has undergone a medical procedure earlier this week and will be out for the remainder of the 2012/13 WHL season.

“Marek had a small blockage isolated to a single vein in his left shoulder,” says Giants’ General Manager & Executive VP, Scott Bonner. “It was completely and rapidly dissolved and he is doing very well. Marek is under the excellent care of numerous specialists and he is recovering quickly. He will not be returning this season but he is expected to have a full recovery and future career as a hockey player. Right now our priority is Marek's health and well-being and we would like to respect his and his family's privacy.”

Tvrdon, a 4th round pick of the Detroit Red Wings (2011), is currently the Giants’ leading scorer, with 8 goals and 14 assists in 18 games.

That's unusual a blockage in a vein. Wonder if the blockage was random or hockey related. Bad way lose top scorer.

Really ****ty news not only for Tvrdon but for the Giants. He was their last real asset to move before the deadline. I'm confident a few teams would have overpaid for his services. That said blood clots are no joke and hopefully he'll be able to make a full recovery.
