Giants Assistant Coach Glen Hanlon Leaves to Pursue Other Opportunities

The Vancouver Giants announced today that Glen Hanlon will not be returning as an Assistant Coach with the Vancouver Giants and will pursue a job as a head coach overseas.

"Glen is a great person and coach. He did a great job when Don Hay went to the World Junior Championship and we were lucky to keep him around for 2 years," said Giants' Executive Vice President and General Manager Scott Bonner. "We'd like to wish Glen all the best with his new job, and thank him for his contributions to our organization."

I'm positive that this was a forced move. He & Hay had different styles. I think Hay should have gone.

He took the job in Vancouver because his son wanted his dad to be home on a regular basis. He made that clear. I think he was forced to resign & they didn't announce it until he got another job so it would seem like it was his choice to leave the organization.

I never thought having two "big names" behind the bench was going to work anyway. We all know this is Don's team and two ego's back there are one too many.

Not sure if Hanlon had an ego. He seemed like a pretty laid back kind of guy. He knew this was Don's team, but I thought Hanlon would have been a good choice to replace Hay if something were to happen.

I meant ego's as in two guys used to running the bench. Sometimes it's hard for one guy more than qualified to be a head coach to play second fiddle.

Sounds like the Giants are targeting former Surrey Eagles Head Coach Matt Erhart to fill that spot.
