The west will be a battle to keep the 1 thru 3 spot. Nobody wants to face Spo or Van at 4 and 5. 6 thru 8 are a cakewalk.

Eastern Conference:

(8) Kootenay Ice vs Edmonton Oil Kings (1) - Oil Kings in five.
(7) Regina Pats vs Moose Jaw Warriors (2) - Warriors in six.
(6) Brandon Wheat Kings vs Calgary Hitmen (3) - Hitmen in seven.
(5) Saskatoon Blades vs Medicine Hat Tigers (4) - Tigers in six.

Western Conference:

(8) Everett Silvertips vs Tri-City Americans (1) - Americans in five.
(7) Victoria Royals vs Kamloops Blazers (2) - Blazers in four.
(6) Kelowna Rockets vs Portland Winterhawks (3) - Winterhawks in six.
(5) Spokane Chiefs vs Vancouver Giants (4) - Giants in seven.

A few series could go either way, IMO. I think it's damn near a given that Edmonton, Tri-City and Kamloops advance...(probably Portland too) although Kelowna is better than their record indicates. And Brown is capable of stealing a game...Carruth is not, IMO. Needless to say I do think Portland will eventually win. Moose Jaw should beat Regina too....but for some reason I'm not entirely sold on the Warriors. I love the fact they are a big and tough team (toughest in the league, pound for pound) but I can see them exiting in the second round (assuming they do beat Regina). Calgary and Brandon is a toss up. Brandon should win on paper but their goaltending has been absolutely horrid. Which is why I can't see them beating Calgary. The Blades and Tigers series is also a toss up. I can see either team winning but I tend to lean toward Medicine Hat due to Etem and Shinkaruk. The Chiefs and Giants series is probably the hardest one to call. Both teams have been struggling as of late and the Giants just lost their best defenseman for the season. I think the Giants are slightly better which is why I picked them in seven but whichever team wins this series will be knocked out very quickly in round two.

I just noticed all my picks were for the home teams. That is a little surprising as there is usually one upset in the first round. Oh well, I guess we'll find out soon enough...
