EIHL tough guys 2012/13 season

Quite a few tougher players signed up already for the upcoming season and also a lot of agitators, i'm getting quite excited about the this season..

.................................................. ............
NORTH

Braehead Clan

Middleweight -- Brock McPherson 6'1'' 220lbs.

Fought quite a bit in his OHL days but now is just really a physical forward. Had 3 fights last year and looked very average against average guys..

Middleweight -- Ryan Watt 5'11'' 180lbs.

Should challenge Steven Lee and Josh Batch for toughest Brit in the league next season.. Had a great season in the EPL last year and he has fought heavyweights Chris Wiggins and Andre Payette in the EPL.. Exciting fighter and I'm looking forward to watching him in the EIHL.. he should do well against other middleweights if he fights regularly for the Clan..

.........
Dundee Stars

Middleweight -- Jeff Hutchins 5'10'' 200lbs.

Hutchins is now into his 7th EIHL season and has been a good agitator the whole time he's been in the league.. Hutchins has also shown he will drop the gloves when needed for his team, and has at times took one for the team when going up against good enforcers. Hutchins has fought Derek Boogaard, Mitch Fritz, Rumun Ndur, Riley Cote, Andre Payette, Jeremy Cornish, Brad Voth ect in his career.
.........
Edinburgh Caps
.........
Fife Flyers

Light-Heavyweight -- Jason Pitton 6'2'' 200lbs.

Pitton is a skilled power forward who plays with an edge which from time to time leads to him having to drop the gloves. Pitton will probable be the Flyers toughest player this year, so after averaging 5 fights a season in his Pro career in the ECHL/AHL leagues he will probable have to put up a few more in this season's EIHL. Pitton will match up to most of the guys in this years league and he' already fought the likes of Jeff Smith, Adam Keefe, Devin Didiomete in the past. He's also fought NHL enforcers Jay Rosehill and Deryk Engellaand in the past.

Middleweight -- Danny Stewart 5'10'' 180lbs.

Another long time EIHL agitator '6th season' who's now in his 2nd season with the Flyers. Danny has fought Jeff Ewasko, Tyler Willis, Simon Rizk, Andre Payette, Derek Campbell, Brad Voth ect.. and although he's toned down his agitating over the last few seasons he can still get under the skins of other players when he wants to.

.........
Hull Stingrays

Heavyweight -- Ryan Hand 6'1'' 210lbs.

Hand has played and fought in some of the toughest leagues in N.America playing the enforcer role since his junior days in the QMJHL were he had over 60 fights in 3 full seasons against the best in the 'Q' like Jonathan Tremblay, Thomas Bellemare, Erick Lizon, Jimmy Bonneau, Eric Neilson while with Baie-Comeau Drakkar.. There's actual a documentary out called ''Junior'' which charts a season in which Hand and Drakkar play in the QMJHL. Hand then turned Pro in the and had two seasons in the very tough LNAH fighting so very good enforcers in them seasons like Jon "Nasty" Mirasty, Mike Varhaug, Brandon Sugden, Louis Bedard, Jacques Dube, Brandon Christian. ect.. Hand was still only in his early 20's in the LNAH so he got a good learning curve as a fighter back then fighting the best in that league. Hand then left the LNAH and over the next 5/6 seasons he has played the enforcer role in the CHL/ECHL/SPHL leagues fighting top names like Mike Sgroi, Brett Clouthier, Colt King, Luke Gazdic, Justin Johnson, Erick Lizon.. Hand should will be one of the tougher guys in the Northern Division this season, and in the EIHL as a whole.

Heavyweight -- Jeff Smith 6'6'' 230lbs.

Big tough D.man who can also be used as a forward. In the past Smith has played the enforcer role in his junior days in the WHL and when he turned pro in ECHL/AHL.. Smith has fought some very tough guys in his career like David Koci, Jon Mirasty, Justin Johnson, Alex Penner, Jonathan Tremblay, Steve MacIntyre, Shawn Thornton, Derek Boogaard, Graham Belak, Jeremy Yablonski..ect He also previously played in the EIHL for the Coventry Blaze but lasted only 15 games after he hurt his knee in a fight with the Cardiff Devils enforcer Justin Sawyer. Smith will be one of the toughest guys in the EIHL next season but I've a feeling Ryan Hand will be doing most of the enforcing for the Rays with Smith being there when needed... I know one thing though, the Rays have plenty of protection and toughness with these two in the roster.
.................................................. ............
.................................................. ............
SOUTH

Belfast Giants

Light-Heavyweight -- Adam Keefe 5'10'' 200lbs.

Had a very good 1st season in the EIHL.. Gives 100% every shift, throws himself about, fights and is a entertaining player to watch.... He's fought Jeremy Yablonski, Riley Cote, T.J. Reynolds, Francis Lessard, Jimmy Bonneau, Raitis Ivanans, Mike Hoffman, Jesse Boulerice, Alex Henry, Luke Gazdic, Brad Voth, Benn Olson, Brett Gallant.ect.. Keefe had 12 fights last year in the EIHL and hopefully ill add to that tally next season..

Light-Heavyweight -- Greg Stewart 6'2'' 210lbs.

Giants new power forward comes to the EIHL having played 26 NHL games for the Montreal Canadians and spending the majority of his career so far as an AHL player. He also has a rep as a hard hitting no nonsense style player and he's fought a lot of tough guys over the last few seasons including Wade Brookbank, Francis Lessard, Luke Gazdic, Jay Rosehill, Matt Carkner, Aaron Downey, Boris Valabik, T.J. Reynolds.. Stewart should be one of the better players in the Giants roster next season and a player I'm looking forward to seeing in Belfast..

Middleweight -- Darryl Lloyd 5'10'' 195''.

The best agitator in the EIHL last season and the best ever I've seen in Belfast.. Lloyd also proved to be one of the best players in the Giants roster last season.. He fought Hutchins last season and Im hopeful with all the other agitators signed up for the coming season we will see Lloyd fight a few more times.
.........
Cardiff Devils

Heavyweight -- Paul Bissonnette 6'2'' 220lbs.

Biz Nasty is an NHL enforcer and twitter comedy gold poster.. Ive been following him for a few seasons on twitter and he's a real comic.. Worth a follow.. Biz has been an enforcer in the OHL, ECHL, AHL and for the last 3 seasons a regular NHL tough guy.. he's fought and beat Heavyweights like Frazer McLaren, David Koci, Matt Kassian, Jay Rosehill, Jody Shelley, Krys Barch, Raitis Ivanans, Deryk Engelland, George Parros, Cam Jannssen, Kevin Westgarth.. and his fight card also includes other big names like Trevor Gillies, Jon Mirasty, Jeremy Yablonski, Darcy Hordichuk, Mike Sgroi, Brandon Sugden, Brent Henley, Jesse Boulerice ect... Will be one of if not the toughest in the EIHL this season..

Light-Heavyweight -- Devin Didiomete 5'11'' 205lbs

Devin will be one of the toughest guys in the EIHL next season, and at only 24 years old he already has 180 career fights to his name... Didi will be an instant fan favorite in Cardiff and should also put up decent number in the EIHL. Didi has fought names like Luke Gazdic, Jozef Sladok, Harry Young, Lane MacDermiod, James DeLory, Jared Boll, Kyle Neuber, Benn Olson, Scott Fletcher, Micheal Haley..ect

Light-Heavyweight -- Gerad Adams 5'11'' 205lbs.

Adams is a long time EIHL veteran, this will be his 12th season in the UK with Adam's being the longest serving player in the league. Adams is also a very tough player and a decent fighter for his size. He's fought loads of top names in his career including Wade Belak, Mike Hoffman, Sean McMorrow, Jeremy Cornish, John Craighead, Barry Nieckar, Dion Darling, Dody Wood, Jesse Boulerice, Mike Varhaug, Brad Voth, Reed Low, Graham Belak ect. in his career.. Adams may be getting on a bit in age but he showed last season in his few fights that he's still one of the tougher guys in the Devils roster and the league.

Light-Heavyweight -- Tyson Marsh 6'2'' 215lbs.

Good signing for the Devils.. Marsh has played at a high level including quite a few AHL games in N.A. . He's also a pretty decent scrapper when he drops the gloves and although its not his role he will stick up for himself and his teammates. Tyson has an exciting fighting style when he drops the gloves and has fought names like Brandon Sugden, Colt King, Jay Rosehill, Ryan Reaves, Nate Kiser ect.

Middleweight -- Josh Batch 6'4'' 220lbs.

Batch only joined the EIHL last season and at 21 he's a talented Brit prospect in the EIHL. Batch dropped the gloves a couple of times last season and done well on both occasions.. He's a big lad and will hopefully drop the gloves a few times next season.
.........
Coventry Blaze

Heavyweight -- Benn Olson 6'4'' 218lbs.

Decent enough Heavyweight fighter, who's fought some real tough guys like Yablonski, Kassian, Mirasty, Reynolds, Bonneau, Rechlicz and Lucic already in his career as a tough guy.. Should fight regular and do well in the EIHL, could be a fan favorite in Coventry and among fight fans as he's an entertaining fighter ..

Light-Heavyweight -- Mike Egener 6'4'' 215lbs.

Big tough D.man who has fought DJ King, Riley Cote, Colton Orr, Trevor Gillies, Erick Lizon ect. in his career... Egener fought a lot as a junior but then as his career took off in the minors he fought less but was still a willing fighter when needed for his teams.. Good back up for Olson and makes the Blaze very tough on the D..

Middleweight -- Mike Danton 5'9'' 190lbs.

He's only a small guy but his fight card shows some good names like Kip Brennan, Alex Henry, Jordin Tootoo ect. One of the guys I'm most looking forward to seeing in Belfast next season from another team.. Ive a feeling he will be a fan fav in Coventry, and with him being an ex NHL player he should also be a very good player..

Middleweight -- Gerome Giudice 5'11'' 198lbs.

Not afraid to drop the gloves when needed to stand up for himself. Also hearing he's a good agitator..

.........
Nottingham Panthers

Heavyweight -- Gui Lepine 6'4'' 220lbs.

Big hitting Gui Lepine will be one of the toughest guys in the EIHL this season. Lepine will be into his 3rd season as a Panther when he arrives, and he's already shown Panthers and EIHL fight fans what he's all about. Lepine is one of if not the biggest hitters to have played in the EIHL, and has also shown he's a willing fighter who will match up to anyone in this years league. Lepine has fought names like Mike Hoffman, Patrick Bordeleau, Kevin Cormier, Brett Gallant, Justin Johnson, T.J. Reynolds, Dan Sullivan, Colt King.. ect

Light-Heavyweight -- Kelsey Wilson 6'1'' 215lbs.

Good signing by the Panthers.. Wilson has put up some decent numbers in leagues of a much higher standard than the EIHL, and he's also a very handy scrapper for his size.. The guy has fought John Scott, Mike Hoffman, Aaron Downey, Ryan Reaves, Kip Brennan, Luke Gazdic, Matt Kassian.. ect.. He has also fought Giants tough guy Adam Keefe numerous times in North America and also clashed with Tyson Marsh, Tom Sestito, Jason Pitton, Neil Clark & Mike Hoffman who have played in the EIHL.. Cracking signing and just made the Panthers even tougher.

Light-Heavyweight -- Jason Beckett 6'3'' 215lbs.

Big tough D.man who has played at a high standard and in his early years fought regularly in the juniors WHL and minors AHL.. Has some familiar names on his fight card like Jason Norrie, Brad Voth, Jason Shmyr, Mike Sgroi, Doug MacIver, Graham Belak.. Also has Wade Brookbank, Riley Emmerson, Josh Gratton ect. Has not fought regularly the last few seasons and I hope he's not a replacement for Lepine as I don't think he will fight as often..

Light-Heavyweight -- Corey Neilson 6'5'' 225lbs.

Attacking D.man and player/coach of the Panthers. Neilson has been known in the past to drop the gloves when needed for his team, and he may have to do it a bit more often next season as he's probable the 2nd best fighter on his team's roster this season. Neilson has fought Brad Voth, Andre Payette, Raitis Ivanans, Jason Hamilton, Krys Barch. ect.

Middleweight -- David Ling 5'10'' 190lbs.

Ling is a skilled forward who has played at a very high level including nearly 100 NHL games, and spells in the KHL,FEL,AHL,IHL. Ling is also know as an agitating player and he has over 100 career fights including 20 in the NHL, fighting guys like Shawn Thornton, Jordin Tootoo, Matthew Barnaby, Jim Vandermeer, Brendan Shanahan, Steve Ott.ect Ling should be a fan favorite in Nottingham this coming season and one of the best players in the EIHL.

Middleweight -- Stephen Lee 6'0'' 205lbs.

Lee will put up 4/5 fights a season and has proved to be a tough Brit in the EIHL.. He has fought Chris Frank, Jeff Hutchins, Ryan Finnerty, Neil Clark, Mark Nebus..
.........
Sheffield Steelers

Light Heavyweight -- Drew Fata 6'1'' 210lbs.

Tough D.man Drew Fata will be the main guy the Steelers look to this season when things start to get physical on the ice.. Fata comes to the EIHL after playing in the Junior OHL league and in the ECHL / AHL and a few call up to the NHL as well... Fata has fought over 100 times in his career and he's not afraid to drop the with anyone as you can see by some of the names he has fought like Brian McGrattan, P.J. Stock ,Colt King, Brett Clouthier, Reed Low, Mike Rupp, Matt Carkner, Kevin Westgarth, Joel Rechlicz ect.. Fata should be a very good signing for the Steelers and he's here for two season's which is a plus for them and for fight fans in the EIHL.

Light Heavyweight -- Steven Goertzen 6'2'' 215lbs

Physical forward Goertzen is another player coming to the EIHL having played at the very highest level. Steven Goertzen played 68 games in the NHL and had 15 fights, will putting up another 66 fights in the minors. Goertzen has got some good names on his fight card like Robin Big Snake, Cam Janssen, Shawn Thornton, Brandon Prust, Jordin Tootoo, Joel Rechlicz, Micheal Haley. ect.. Goertzen should be one of the Steelers star players next season.

Light -Heavyweight -- Chris Frank 6'1'' 230lbs.

Big tough and plays with a mean streak.. Frank put up over 300pims last season for the Cardiff Devils, his hard hitting, physical style of play catching a lot of peoples eye including the EIHL officals.. Frank picked up more 10min penalties than any other player last year.. Frank has fought Matt Kassian, Erick Lizon, Justin Johnson,Peter Vandermeer , James DeLory in the minor leagues.. He also fought Colt King, Derek Campbell, Gui Lepine and Bryan Jurynec last season in the EIHL..

Light Heavyweight -- Simon Ferguson 6'0'' 205lbs.

Skilled tough forward Simon ferguson should be a point a game signing for the Steelers.. The guy has played most of his career in the AHL as a tough nosed forward.. He has fought some good enforcers like Riley Cote, Jay Rosehill, Kevin Westgarth, Deryk Engelland, Ryan Reaves. ect Plus some similar names to EIHL fans like Kyle Bruce, Devin Didiomette, Drew Fata, Jake Riddle, Drew Bannister, Owen Fussey, Jason Kostadine.. Good signing for the Steelers..

Middleweight -- Shawn Limpright 5'11'' 185lbs.

Limpright is a tough gritty forward who's not afraid to mix it up when needed and he's fought quite a few times in the ECHL/AHL/CHL over the years.. He's a gritty middleweight fighter and quite similar to Steelers coach Ryan Finnerty in his style of play. He's fought Mitch Fritz, B.J. Crombeen, Tom Maxwell, Jason Kostadine.. ect. I'm sure we will see Limpright dropping the gloves on a few occasions this season for the Steelers..

Middleweight -- Tylor Michel 5'10'' 190lbs.

Great little agitator who hits hard and brings an exciting game to the ice.. I really enjoy players like Michel when they are out there getting under the skins of the opposition.. He had a great season point wise for the Devils in 10/11 and on a strong Steelers team he should do very well.. Michel will probable on a few occasions next season.

Middleweight -- Matt Stephenson 6'2'' 205lbs.

Talented D.man who's willing to stick up for himself and his team mates on occasions when needed.. He's fought good enforcers in N.A like Tim Spencer and Wade Brookbank, and he dropped the gloves 3 times last year in the EIHL..

Can someone please give me some information about Robert Dowd?! He signed with Troja/Ljungby recently and will be the first englishman ever to play professional hockey in Sweden.

Played for the team I support the Belfast Giants, and was our best British player in the roster and a big part of our championship winning team.. He scored 40 goals last season, and finished top scorer in our roster..

Not sure what standard the Swedish lower league is but it's probable higher than the EIHL in terms of skill, so it will be interesting to see how Dowd gets on.. I was disappointed that he left our team as he's going to be hard to replace as there's not to many British players at Dowd's standard in the EIHL...

Jason Beckett really isnt a heavyweight , especially if a guy like Tyson Marsh isnt a heavyweight too.
Marsh would beat Beckett in a fight, every day.

Same for the light-heavys like Keefe.

Great list, EIHL is looking good so far with new guys like Olson and Hand.

And guys like Goertzen, Ling and maybe Craig Wellar if he goes to UK the league also looks better playing wise.

Jeff Smith is said to have signed for Hull.. Rumors that Mike Hoffman is returning to the EIHL, and Ive heard a few names mentioned from the ECHL who are tougher players but nothing solid.

EIHL League is looking a little tougher next season.
