EIHL Suspends Benn Olson (2 Games) and Daren Machesney (1 Game)

Coventry Blaze defenceman Benn Olson has been banned for two matches following the accumulation of two stick-related game misconducts and the accumulation of six game misconducts this season.

Olson was assessed a 5+game misconduct for slashing in the third period (54:38) of Coventry’s game at Belfast Giants on Saturday 16th February 2013.

This was his second major stick-related penalty this season following his 5+game for high sticks against Sheffield Steelers on Sunday 16th September 2012. As per Elite League guidelines, Olson will be banned for one match.

It was also his sixth game misconduct penalty of the season. As per Elite League guidelines, Olson will be banned for one match and fined.

Olson has already missed Coventry’s home match with Edinburgh yesterday (Sunday) and will now sit out the Blaze’s trip to Braehead Clan on Friday 22nd February 2013.

Head of discipline, Simon Kirkham, said: “For each further game misconduct that Benn Olson receives this season there will be referral to the disciplinary committee for potential further action.

“For every third game-misconduct offence from now, a one-match ban and fine will be applied. This is in accordance with Elite League guidelines.”

Braehead Clan netminder Darren Machesney received a match penalty for abusive gestures in the second period (33:11) of his side’s match at Nottingham Panthers on Saturday 16th February 2013.

As is mandatory, this penalty has been reviewed by the Elite League disciplinary committee and no further action will be taken.

Machesney will miss Braehead’s home match with Coventry on Friday 22nd February 2013.
