EIHL Suspends Andrew Conboy Five Games for Match Penalty
Cardiff Devils forward Andrew Conboy received a match penalty for headbutting in his side's match with Esbjerg on Saturday 31st August 2013.
The penalty carries a five-match suspension as per Elite League tariffs and the discipline review will take place this week.
Conboy received the penalty in the second period (24:22).
As is mandatory this penalty will now be reviewed and the findings will be presented this week.
The Elite League would like to confirm that Cardiff Devils forward Andrew Conboy will be banned for one match following the mandatory review process.
A headbutting match penalty under Elite League tariffs would normally constitute a five-match ban but, after consultation with match officials and the sport's governing body, it was confirmed that this game was not played under full Elite League rules.
New head of discipline, Moray Hanson, said: "In a normal Elite League game a heavy ban would be implemented."
But with this being a pre-season friendly against foreign opposition, the ruling is different and the normal suspension tariffs do not apply.
"Therefore, the match penalty as assessed by the referee will stand, but no further action can be taken."
Conboy will miss Cardiff's match with Coventry on Wednesday (4th September 2013).
