Whalers Sign United States Army Specialist Shawn Allen
The Danbury Whalers are proud to announce that they have signed from the United States Army Specialist Shawn Allen to a one game contract. SPC Allen will be playing for the Whalers on Friday, February 22nd when they take on the 1000 Islands Privateers.
SPC Allen, currently stationed in Fort Drum, New York, has served 3 combat tours, with 2 to Iraq and 1 to Afghanistan. He has received 4 Army Commendation Medals, 4 Army Achievement Medals, the Combat Infantryman Badge, and the Combat Action Badge. SPC Allen has served 8 years in the Army Military Police. SPC Allen, 27 years old, grew up in Northern California and started playing hockey at a young age. Allen commented, Its been a dream of mine to play in a professional game and I am thankful for the Whalers for making this happen. Specialist Allen will arrive in Danbury on February 15th and train with the Whalers for the week. He will make his debut the following Friday.

Haven't been able to find the reference but I have a vague recollection from last season that this soldier had planned on playing a game for the Privateers. However at the last minute he had some duty assignment that precluded playing in a game. Hopefully this will work out and he has a great game experience.
