Danbury, CT – The
Danbury Whalers have announced that the club has re-signed defenseman James Kirkwood and forward Carlo Ricci for the 2012-2013 Federal Hockey League season.
Kirkwood came to the Whalers in the middle of the season after a trade with 1000 Islands. He finished the regular season with 22 points, 19 of them coming with the Whalers. He tallied six goals and 13 assists while in a Whalers uniform while helping quarterback the power play. This summer Kirkwood played for the Canterbury Red Devils of the New Zealand hockey league and helped lead them to a championship. He was the leading scorer among defensemen with 24 points (10 goals, 14 assists) in just 17 games. James was also named the MVP of the Red Devils.
Ricci joined the Whalers at the beginning of the season after attending a tryout camp and making the team out of nowhere. He went on to play in 34 regular season games in his rookie season tallying five goals and six assists.
