Shantz Returns to Warriors, but Akwesasne loses 16-3 to Danville

Surprise of the night: Paul Shantz back in a Warriors uniform. After being waived January 27th, Shantz returned to a short-handed Warriors team in Danville last night, going scoreless with 22 PIM. Shantz fought former Privateer James Brooks twice, the second time picking up the Bettman instigating package, ending his night. This morning Shantz has been placed on league suspension, but no reason has been given.

Akwesasne made the trip without it's number 1 or 2 goalies as starter Adam Thompson is still serving a 5 game suspension and backup David Plouffe did not travel. Tryout Jordan Neamonitis, who was in Vermont's camp last summer was shelled for 11 goals in 24 shots, to pick up the loss, and Warriors' 3rd string goalie Jacob Lazore gave up 5 on the 24 shots he faced.

The Warriors went with just 12 skaters and were missing key players including Jean-Rene Forget, Simon Desormeaux, Nicolas Corbeil, Carter Trevisani, Dan Tessier, Miguel Delisle and Patrick Deraspe. Of them, only Deraspe is serving a suspension.

Maybe even more interesting is that of the 3 newly acquired Dashers from the 1000 Islands boycott, only Brad Townsend played. Chad Bazin and Ryan Pearson have yet to sign a contract with the Dashers. Also Lee McClure, who was on team suspension returned to the Dashers lineup, scoring a goal and adding an assist.

Could that have been Shantz's last dance for the regular season? He was assesed a "Tier 1 Gross Misconduct". Last time someone got one of them was Kelly Miller of Danbury on 2/2 and the league hit him with a 13 game vacation but his was also related to a spearing incident and not a fight (like Shantz's case). Akwesasne has 10 games left in the regular season starting tonight. I couldn't find the specific words "Tier 1" in their rule book but based on their gross misconduct definition there's 2 levels, first one comes with a 1 game suspension and the 2nd level comes with a 3 game suspension. An instagator penalty also comes with a 1 game suspension so I'd have to think he'll get a minimum of 2 to 4 pending whatever the league wants to throw at him.

I was at the game in Danville last night..Shantz jumped Brooks from behind and then proceeded to spit on Brooks and then when he was being escorted off the ice Shantz decided to spit on the official.

I think he might be done in the FHL from this point on.

Take this post with a grain of salt. Brooks himself mentioned nothing of being spit on by Shantz or anyone else, he just said he was jumped.

The gross misconduct was for pushing the linesmen after the fight, not for spitting on him either.

Once again, the other player in the fight, James Brooks, made no mention of any spitting taking place either at him or at the referee, which you claimed both happened. I'll take the word of the player in the fight over the word of "riverman72" on some rainbowish website.

So you admit that you didn't actually see any spitting occur, even though you were at the game, and just got your info from a random, unknown 3rd party?

No I was using that link to show that Shantz was tossed was spitting but yes I did see him spit at Brooks.

I think it boiled over from the previous fight earlier in the game. Which was actually a nice tilt.
