Privateers return to 1000 Islands

Excitement filled the Bonnie Castle Arena in Alexandria Bay, New York today as the Thousand Islands Privateers were officially unveiled. In attendance were Federal Hockey League officials (www.thefederalhockeyleague.com), area politicians, arena executives, future fans and members of the media.

Former St. Lawrence University women’s hockey player, Nicole Kirnan Hall spoke with excitement as she described what it was like to return to the North Country. “Some of my greatest memories in hockey and life took place up here. Northern New Yorkers and our Canadian neighbors share a love for the sport of hockey and we are thrilled to announce this new chapter of professional hockey in the North Country.

The Thousand Islands Privateers announced that games for the Federal Hockey League will begin in November 2010. The team’s colors are deep red and silver, with white and black trim. The team’s logo will be announced at a later date, along with their coaching staff. In addition, the team’s website has been launched, www.1000islandsprivateers.com .

The Federal Hockey League will be made up of former collegiate and major junior players. This “A” level league will be unique to the Northeast. Commissioner Don Kirnan spoke at the press conference and gave his support for the region and the new franchise.

The team announced their “GOT TIP?” marketing campaign that is running from now until February 14th, 2010. Season tickets can be purchased for $150 ($5 per home game) for all tickets bought on or before February 14th. This is guaranteed to be the lowest priced ticket. Even more exciting, the team is making a commitment to their fans and guaranteeing the $150 season ticket price for the life of the ticket.
