BAD BLOOD BREWING!!!!!!

Quote:

DANBURY -- Gentry Zollars' overtime goal capped a wild, wild 4-3 victory for the Danbury Whalers over the rival Williamsport Outlaws on Saturday night at the Danbury Arena.

Just seconds after Gentry scored the game-winner, players and coaches from both teams clashed in the area where the two benches meet. After a few moments of utter mayhem, the players and coaches were ushered off the ice, but it was a predictably ugly conclusion, given the events that had preceded it.

The bad blood began to boil over as the players and coaches left the ice at the conclusion of the second period. Whalers coach Phil Esposito and Outlaws coach Chris Firriolo stood toe-to-toe and nose-to-nose screaming at each other on the ice near where the two teams' benches come together. Both coaches, along with players from both teams, had to be restrained from going after one another.

At the end of the game, it was more of the same, with Esposito and Firriolo right in the middle of it. Even as the overtime period was going on, players from both benches were exchanging heated words -- and a few jabs and slashes -- around the plexiglass panel that separates the two benches. When Gentry scored the goal, it didn't take much to reignite the inferno.

Esposito had served as an assistant coach under Firriolo during the Whalers' inaugural season two years ago. Last year, in Firriolo's first year with the Outlaws and Esposito's first year as the Whalers' head coach, the two teams met in the Commissioner's Cup finals, with the Outlaws winning the championship.

"We're probably the two best teams in the league, so there's a natural rivalry between the two of us," Esposito said. "And we all know the history with Chris being the coach here and then leaving, and then (beating) us last year in the finals.

"I think it's got a lot to do with me and him and it has a lot to do with the franchises and the players that we have here," Esposito added. "It's probably a little bit of a culmination of everything."

Overshadowed by the extra-curricular activities was a pretty darn good hockey game in front of a crowd of more than 2,000 fans.

No doubt these 2 do NOT like each other at all. I wouldn't be surprised if we end up at least 1 bench clearer between these teams before the end of the season. Danbury goes to Williamsport next week as Sekrah mentioned and then come home to face Bellamy, Tippin (who's been rather quiet this year so far) and 1000 Islands on Saturday.

And the suspensions have come down:
Quote:
Danbury 11/11/12 Esposito, Phil () placed on league suspension for 3 games
Williamsport 11/11/12 McNeil, Dan () placed on league suspension for 1 games
McNeil is on IR and was acting as an assistant coach. He's the guy in the black skully behind Firriolo.
I have no idea how Firriolo avoided any punishment. That's got to be a joke.

We're not even at Thanksgiving yet and I believe that was Esposito's 2nd suspension this season.

What did Firriolo do that would have warranted suspension?!

Haha in the 2nd picture of post #4, you can see Firriolo is wearing his championship ring from last year. Anyway it looks like alot of barking from McNeill and Esposito with Firriolo getting in between. I love McNeill, he had the stones to drop gloves with Pisano who had 4 inches and 30 pounds on him.

Friday Night could be a classic, but I'm disappointed Esposito won't be there to get things stirred up.
