Quebec minor pro league considers discipline for player who fought fan posted October 24 @ 14:15, EST MONTREAL (CP) - A two-fisted minor pro hockey league will decide this week whether to discipline a player who fought a belligerent spectator in the Bell Centre stands. Gilles Rousseau, in charge of discipline for the Ligue Nord-Americaine de Hockey (no relation to the U.S. junior North American Hockey League) is investigating the incident, in which Verdun Dragons player Clint Butler tangled with a fan behind the team bench. "It should be announced on Monday," league secretary general Jacques Hurtubise said Sunday. Dragons' co-owner Sheldon Ludwick said the team is considering its own disciplinary measures against Butler. "It's not something we're happy with at all," said Ludwick. "I'm going to sit down with my partner, the GM and the coach to discuss it. I can't say what we'll do." Late in Verdun's fight-filled 9-5 victory over the Laval Chiefs, there was a disturbance behind the Verdun bench. Ludwick said a fan climbed the glass behind the bench and threw an object at Butler, who then went into the crowd to confront him. Security guards eventually took the spectator away. "He should have stayed down and waited for security to take the guy out, but in the heat of the moment, he reached over the glass, I don't know how far," Ludwick said. "It's not something that should have happened at all. "It was a great event. People were thrilled with the night, including all the fights. They did like that, but they also saw some great players." It was the first of two Verdun-Laval games scheduled at the Bell Centre this season. It drew 7,107 fans to the 21,273-seat arena. The game was marked by five separate fights in the first seven seconds of play, plus four more later in the game. The league encourages on-ice fighting while cracking down on other forms of violence. Two weeks ago, the league suspended Thetford Mines forward Mathieu Melancon for the rest of the season and the playoffs for a two-hand slash to the head that left former NHL enforcer Sylvain Blouin with a concussion. The 10-team league is based in Quebec and is made of mostly of ex-major junior and minor pro players, with a handful of former NHL players such as Daniel Marois, Trevor Jobe and fighter Link Gaetz. Philadelphia Flyers' bruiser Donald Brashear is waiting out the NHL lockout with the Quebec City team. -------------------------------------------- Sounds like Domi incident. |

There´s one big difference:
In Domi´s case, the fan got himself in to Domi´s territory. In the Butler incident, he´s trying to get into the fans territory, if you do that, you´re !!

Verbal abuse is one thing but throwin stuff is too much.If nothing is thrown and the player comes into the stands he is wrong and if he gets clocked too bad,the reverse is true for fans coming into player area.
