Pretty risky contract, but not nearly as bad as much of the internet (primarily hfboards) is making it out to be. It feels strange to call a cup-winning starter "unproven" but the fact remains that he has never managed to string together 2 good seasons in a row. Although people are giving some pretty shaky additional reasons for why the contract is awful, like comparing it to Quick's 10 year/old CBA contract as well as short-changing him on credit for the Hawks success because of how good the rest of the team was (people seem to forget that he could have easily won the Conn Smythe instead of Kane).
This can still end up being a solid deal as long as sophomore Crawford was an anomaly and the Hawks get more of the 2011 and 2013 version. It could also really bite them in the a** if he fails to show the consistency expected of goalies who make that kind of money.
