It's a shame that teams (like Tampa Bay) are seemingly built to survive/take advantage of the 'softness' the NHL is trending towards year after year. The mindset of "if we ignore it enough the refs will handle it for us" is lame. Is it "SMART" for them to not fight, sure, for them. It certainly isn't a complicated or new concept.

I know, it is lame. Sometimes it's smart to turn the other cheek, that just didn't used to happen in the good old days when teams had 4 or 5 guys who would fight, you'd have to answer the bell.
The Lightning toughened up considerably with Crombeen, Labrie, and Aulie all on the roster but that's not exactly Brown, Stanley, and Tocchett.
