The problem is we all know how exciting the NHL can be. So having to settle for much less largely due to rule changes and how the game (on the ice and from a philosophical point of view) has changed, we aren't going to see that exciting product nearly enough. The game is just too broken and there isn't a quick fix. There are things that can be done to improve the game but the league has shown they have no interest in doing so.
Totally hear you. The first thing I'd do is place a greater emphasis on division rivalrys like the old days. Let's see the Habs, Sabres, etc 8 times a year! And the B's can call up Robins and MacDermid for those encounters. I'm dreaming I know...
