Real is probably the wrong word. There are some differences between fans in NA and Europe, that's for sure. Fans over here are different, you could call them stupid instead of real. Maybe that describes their undestroyable love for their teams better. They just don't quit on it, it's not the entertainemt on the field or ice they are looking for, sometimes the entertainment is the singing, chanting, drumming, screaming or whatever that they love. They are so busy to do that, they sometimes don't even watch the game.
Keep in mind that we have relegation in most leagues and fans keep following their teams...would you follow the Sabres if they would play in the AHL for some years?
