I have never seen an NHL fight live as I've only ever been to a couple live NHL games. I do not remember the first live fight i ever saw however I do remember the first hockey enforcer that i followed. It was Jody Shelley
when he was a teenager playing for the Halifax Mooseheads
. He was with the team from 1994-1997. I was 13 at the time when i saw my first Mooseheads game and it was also their inaugural season in the QMJHL and Shelley's rookie season in the QMJHL. Shelley quickly became a fan favorite and i remember me and buddies would go ballistic whenever he would drop the gloves. Shelley was a great guy in the community too. He would always take time to chat with the fans before the warm ups and after the games. He was so well respected and loved by the fans that he was appointed the Captain in his final season. So Shelley was the first real enforcer i followed through out his career. I don't remember too many of his fights that i saw live from his Halifax days but i do remember him having a couple tough fights with Peter Worrell
. I remember seeing Worrell live and thinking man this guy is one scary dude. He was huge in junior hockey and towered over most. Anyways Shelley went on to have a pretty solid career in junior hockey. He scored 25 goals in his final season and had a team record 420 pims in 59 games. The record for pims in a single season still stands today for Halifax. He also holds the team record for career pims with 933. Anyways Jody went on to have his number retired by the Mooseheads. So while i do not remember my first fight i do remember the first enforcer that i watched live and left an impression on me.
