In the first couple years of the WHA, Gord Gallant was the consensus choice as best fighter/toughest guy. Gallant wasn't a real big guy though and that obviously changed as teams started loading up on bigger tough guys 74-75ish. Fotiu and Carlson were part of that but by no means the only two. I don't think too many guys could have handled Bryan Maxwell
Was a very good fighter through his transfer to the NHL. I saw him fight Terry O'Reilly
live when he fell back over his own leg. He screwed up his knee badly. It was not pretty. They had to take him off the ice on a stretcher.
