If you ask me he was a very underated agitator. He would run around the ice hitting guys, sticking guys, getting in little cheap shots behind the ref but seldomly backed it up. Yes I know he fought the likes of Brown, Miller and Wells but so did almost every other top notch villian. He wasn't as dirty as a Samuelsson (one of my other most hated players) but he was still chippy and I hated him.
Funny thing is I never hated Nilan. Even though he played for the hated Habs and knocked Middletons teeth out I still respected and loved the way he played the game. I never missed a chance to see the Habs play in Hartford because of him and always looked forward to watching him play against whoever the Habs were matched against on USA cable. I still remember like yesterday when he and Moller went touching off one of the greatest bench clearers (actually 2 bench clearers since they were seperated and went at it again before the start of the 3rd) of all time.
Dineen had a really solid, somewhat overlooked career. He always makes me think of another smaller powerforward (of sorts), Pat Verbeek
Which reminds me just how much i hated Dino Ciccerelli. I'm proud to say i hated him even as a capital.
