Just cause he's a good player doesn't mean I have to like him guys a ****ing scumbag and a cheat. The most successful period at United in recent years came from a core of 7 or 8 players who came through the youth system, Giggs, Scholes, Beckham, Neville, Neville, Butt etc.
City and Chelsea are trying to buy championships. Although united have before spent big on individual players it would tend to be a player in a transfer window not 4 or 5 like City Madrid Chelsea etc. Also when they did buy big it was often money earnt they don't have an oil tycoon financing them and even now they don't.
Some of their best players of recent years may not have come through the academy from the age of 10 like Joe Allen with Swansea but they most definitely do being in young players 18-21 and develop them. Rinaldo for example certainly wasn't a superstar when he came to Enlgand straight away he grew into the player he is now at United.
Even in their squad today they have players from their own youth systems. Cleverly has come up through the ranks Welbeck has Evans has Rafeal was brought over at a young age and worked his way up Darren Fletcher is another player who has come through the ranks. Who do City have who have done that Micah Rochards and Joe Hart? What about Chelsea? (Disclosing Terry and Lampard unless you want me to include Giggs and Scholes) arsenal have a great development system unfortunately they have problems keeping hold of them.
And finally the is real value in a good scouting team. Hernandez for £6 million is a bargain buy Ronaldo for £10 million bargain again.
Is that enough for you?
