I used to get paid hourly, but as you move up you generally move to salary/bonus.
One firm I used to work for at the beginning of my career didn't believe in the concept of "overtime". So basically they paid me a salary (very low - entry level) and then gave me a $2,000 bonus the last year I worked there in exchange for my nearly 600 hours of overtime. Do the math. Any doubt why I left?

The most unbelievable part is that my bonus was higher than most of my coleagues. Those guys were the cheapest bastards ever.
That total is hours above a "normal" workweek at a full-time job.
