It's not with some passion for the sport that has subsided or some desire to excel at soccer that kids get into it. All you need are some cleats and a ball. Ask people what they care most about, they wont be saying soccer. It's Hockey by far.

You do realize that those young kids playing soccer are the future, correct? The more young kids playing soccer equals less young kids playing hockey. So, that in itself should explain how soccer is slowly but surely taking over hockey.
If you don't think kids have a passion for soccer, you have never been to a
rep soccer game. You need more than cleats and a ball to play the game. I don't know where you live, but do yourself a favour and go out and watch some
rep soccer games and come back and tell me about passion.
You base what you have said on what you feel, not by facts nor by actually going and education yourself about soccer. It is now played all year round, and is becoming more & more expensive as it grows. The passion is there.
