J, I hear what you're saying and this is a great comparison. However, there is one major issue between what's going on with the NHL players and the owners; these players aren't looking for money to make a living. They're looking for money that most of us would never make in our lifetimes to play a ****ing game. This isn't stick welding or logistics work, it's a ****ing game.
I get the fact they want their slice of the pie. Trust me, I get that. However, in the grand scheme of it, these are millionaires fighting with billionaires over who is going to get MORE millions.
For example, this isn't you and I seeking a $4K a year raise. This is millionaires seeking to make $45M instead of $40M. The affect on life that extra money has, in the grand scheme of things, I mean c'mon J. If I got my girlfriend knocked up, I assure you I'd need that 4K a hell of a lot more than a pro hockey player getting his girl friend knocked up and "needing" that extra 5M.

It's their bodies, sure. But, it's the choice they made to play this game. And, they get to have all the money on the planet to pay for them to play this game. They also get everything they could want - health care coverage especially - to play this game.
What more could Fehr be standing up for? Oh yeah, them getting more of the "money they deserve" in an extra few millions.

You're right. Us who have to do a hard days work are dead wrong for saying that a guy making $40M to play a ****ing game is in the "right" for wanting to get as much as he can from his greedy billionaire franchise owner.
J, I see what you're trying to get at with this post, but this is beyond the scales of 'normal people' kind of comparisons. This is on the scale of excess living, and that's what it's so ****ing retarded and pathetic that we have billionaires and millionaires fighting it out.
You want to be pissed about people not getting what they "deserve" through all this, be pissed about the regular joes that work the arenas, bars, restaurants and everywhere else that relies on the NHL for work and to make a true living.
