John Tavares - $5.5 million
Henrik Zetterberg - $6.1 million
Erik Karlsson - $6.5 million
Ryan Miller - $6.25 million
Sorry, but all of those guys are not barely worth more than Lucic. The Bruins overpaid him, and better hope the cap doesn't plummet when the lockout ends.

There are more of "those types" of players in the league than there are like Lucic. He's a good player, and can bring an entirely different element that none of the players you listed can match. In a game turning as p*ssy as the NHL is, guys like Lucic are more of a commodity now than ever.
The Bruins overpaid for him, but not as significantly as some of you are making it out to be. It's not like he's a 3 million dollar player who just doubled his salary. He (in today's game) is likely in the 4.5 to 5 million dollar range. To get him locked up at 6 is a lot, but it's not ridiculous. And certainly not as ridiculous as the numbers he would have seen if he was a UFA.
