Senators Re-Sign Kaspars Daugavins to One-Year Contract

OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators announced today that the club has re-signed forward Kaspars Daugavins to a one-year contract.

Daugavins, 24, played 65 National Hockey League games with Ottawa last season, scoring five goals while adding six assists and recording 12 penalty minutes. He also played in the first game of Ottawa’s Eastern Conference quarter-final series against the New York Rangers. Daugavins started the season with the Binghamton Senators, registering six points (four goals, two assists) in seven games before being recalled to Ottawa on Nov. 4 for the duration of the NHL season.

In 2010-11, the native of Riga, Latvia, played in each of the B-Sens’ 23 post-season contests, contributing 20 points, including 10 goals, while helping Binghamton capture its first Calder Cup championship. In 177 career AHL contests, all with Binghamton, he has registered 46 goals and 65 assists, while adding 59 penalty minutes.

Daugavins has represented his native Latvia at the IIHF World Hockey Championship on five occasions and also at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

He was Ottawa’s second third-round pick (91st overall) in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
