Sharks Re-Sign Matt Pelech

SAN JOSE - San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has re-signed defenseman Matt Pelech to a one-year contract. In keeping with club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

In 2011-12, Pelech played 59 games for Worcester, posting eight points (one goal, seven assists), 168 penalty minutes and 16 fighting majors. In addition, he earned the Worcester Sharks "UnSung Hero" 2011-12 Team Award and served as an alternate captain.

Pelech was signed by San Jose as a free agent on July 6, 2011.

The six-foot-five, 220-pound native of Toronto, Ontario was originally selected in the first round (26th overall) by the Calgary Flames in the 2005 NHL Draft.
