Phoenix Coyotes General Manager
Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have signed free agent forward
Steve Sullivan to a one-year contract.
Last season, the 37-year-old Sullivan played 79 games with the
Pittsburgh Penguins ranking sixth on the team in scoring with 17-31-48 and 20 penalty minutes (PIM). In six playoff games, Sullivan collected 2-4-6.
“We are very pleased to welcome Steve to the Coyotes,” said Maloney. “Steve is an intelligent player who adds skill to our lineup and will help improve our power play. He is a great addition to our roster.”
Prior to joining the Penguins, the 5-foot-9, 161 pound Sullivan played six seasons with the
Nashville Predators where he recorded 60 or more points twice (68 points in 2006-07 and 60 in 2005-06) and collected 51 points in 2009-10.
In 15 NHL seasons with New Jersey, Toronto, Chicago, Nashville and Pittsburgh, Sullivan has played 969 career NHL games, registering 283-447-730 and 563 PIM. He has also played in 50 playoff games, collecting 9-14-23.
The native of Timmins, Ontario has scored 20 or more goals eight times in his career, collected 30 or more assists nine times and recorded 50 or more points eight times. Sullivan has also had two 70 or more point seasons (75 points in 2000-01 and 73 points in 2003-04). His best season came during the 2000-01 campaign with Chicago when he set career highs in goals (34) and points (75). Sullivan collected a career high 49 assists with Chicago and Nashville in 2003-04.
Sullivan was drafted by the
New Jersey Devils in the ninth round (233rd overall) in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft. In 2009, he was awarded the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy for his perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to hockey.
