Canadiens Sign Colby Armstrong

BROSSARD – Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin announced Sunday the signing of free agent forward Colby Armstrong to a one-year contract (2012-13). As per club policy, financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Armstrong, 29, notched three points (1 goal, 2 assists) in 29 games with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2011-12. He served nine penalty minutes, registered 14 shots on goal and 37 hits, while averaging 9:19 of ice time per game. Armstrong missed 42 games due to injuries.

Since his debut in 2005-06, Armstrong has registered 204 points (87 goals, 117 assists) in 439 NHL regular-season games. The 6’2’’, 195 lbs forward has scored 12 of his goals on the powerplay, four on the penalty kill and added 12 winning goals. Armstrong has served 364 penalty minutes and displays a +23 plus/minus differential. He has produced one assist in five career NHL playoff contests.

A native of Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, Armstrong was the Pittsburgh Penguins’ first pick (first round, 21st overall) at the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. Prior to joining the Canadiens, Armstrong played with the Penguins, Atlanta Thrashers and Maple Leafs during his NHL career.
