Maple Leafs Sign Tyler Biggs To Entry-Level Contract

Brian Burke, President and General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Thursday that the hockey club has signed forward and 2011 first-round draft choice Tyler Biggs to a three-year entry level contract.

Biggs, 19, played this past season for the Miami University (Ohio) RedHawks of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. In 37 games with the RedHawks, the Loveland, Ohio native registered nine goals, eight assists and 17 points with 63 penalty minutes. The 6-3, 210-pound right-winger ranked second on Miami in penalty minutes.

Biggs participated in the United States National Team Development Program in 2009-10 and 2010-11. He served as team captain in 2010-11, and won gold medals with Team USA at both the 2010 and 2011 IIHF World U-18 Championships, as well as at the 2010 World U-17 World Championships.

Biggs was originally the Maple Leafs’ first choice, 22nd overall, in the 2011 Entry Draft.
